Since you mention bears, a bear was actually spotted in roughty the same
area as the Lion was last year. Bears, although native to So-Cal, haven't
been seen in the area in question for quite some time. Took some people by
surprise for sure.

About 12 years ago in a park also in Moorpark, two equestrians out on a ride
scared a mountain lion. The mountain lion stayed crouched in the bushes as
the first horse WALKED over it and then bolted before the second one could
do the same. This park was (part of it has since been converted into the
greatest uses of land possible.....a golf course) a place to go for a quick
ride once in a while.

If there was a an immediate danger, hey, I'm all for shooting it, but
there were half a dozen guys with rifles standing around, they just
decided they didn't want to wait for the tranquilizers to take effect.
Doesn't make for as good a story back at the station.

Now that you're in SoCal, you should aquaint yourself with Simi Valley
PD. They bring new meaning to petty small mindedness. Go roll through a
stop on your bike and see what happens. I'm not kidding.
