Well I don't like to run on the roads in the winter after the traffic
has turned the snow into slush, other than that I like to run anywhere.
But I find that the closer to nature I am the better I feel when
running.

Damn that's easy, at the finish of a run/race.

Last night I directed a 10k trail race and had a beer as people crossed
the line. My usual salute to those that come to run. Someone was
assigned to back track on the course to wipe out the flour we used to
mark the turns but left early. Sooo, I had fun running a few miles with
nothing but a beer in my stomach since lunch.

Favorite as in a place I'd like to run again?

Running a city park trail outside Chicago, when I passed within 6feet
of a doe and then a buck deer.

For my favorite run near home, it's a looping park trail around a lake.
It has quarter mile markers, so it has both some scenery and rigid
distances. So many options on that run.

I am assuming you can respond with a "yes" or a "no". Additional
commentary is welcome, however I would like to know if you can answer a
yes or no question with indeed a yes or no.

What you've described is unlawful downstate here in New York City, in
this county, but perhaps in upstate New York, it's different. Don't
tell me Doug Freese that you employ entitlement and pick and choose
which laws you obey? I'm curious as to your response to my question,
and your demonstration of consistency in the context of being a
responsible RD, respectful of the trails you trounce, at my expense (as
a NY taxpayer).

Are you in compliance with law, or do you openly brazenly violate law
as your post suggest? Just a question Doug....

events and "festivals" *can* permit the open consumption of alcohol on

The New York Road Runners have to obtain a special 1 time use permit to
have Saranac Brewers permitted to have beer (pale ale) on public land
at the NYC Marathon. It's granted under the description of the race
as a "festival". It's agreed to for commerce reasons (they are a
sponsor, it's all business). However it's a violation of law to do
what Doug does at a New York Road Runner race in Central Park, Van
Courtland Park, or on City Street.

My question to Doug can be answered with a Yes or a No. He's the RD,
why can't he answer? Doug did as I predicted, 1)personally attack me,
2) avoid, and 3) divert.

Doug, Mr. Race Director, why are you hiding? Tell us, are you in
compliance with your permit, County & State law when you stand at the
finish line openly consuming alochol on public land?

Can you stand up Doug? Or are you realizing that you, the Race
Director, admitted on the world wide web as a matter of practice that
you violate your permit, County, and State law? I'm not suggesting
you're dumb Doug.....not at all....you're as sharp as they come...sure
you are.

I live in a University town, Urbana, Illinois. Just down
the street they play college football five or six times
a year on Saturdays in the fall. Thousands of people
gather before the game and openly consume alcohol on
University property where alcohol is expressly illegal.
If they did so on any other day they would be cited but
if anyone were to suggest that they be cited on a football
Saturday that person would be considered a silly crank.

So I guess my question of you is, Are you a silly crank ?

Director (whose events I subsidize with my tax dollars) about something
that Race Director elected to publish.

I'm a tax payer with a vested interest and right to know. That's how
our society works. I could find out on my own if Doug, the Race
Director brazenly violates his permit, County, & State law but why
should I spin those wheels when the horse's mouth is actively here on
this newsgroup and can answer this yes or no question? Shouldn't he
know?

Ken, my answer to you is "no". It's rare to see a Race Director openly
and proudly declare violating their permit, county, and state laws,
especially in the context of the use of alcohol (a highly charged topic
in and of itself).

It's exceptionally poor judgement for Doug Freese to do what he asserts
he routinely does and to publish this unlawful practice in New York
State. If Doug is involved in a car accident driving home from a race
event, he's published a paper trail (that will last forever) on the
worldwide web admitting he drinks alcohol at these events.

There are responsibilities that come with roles and you can learn all
about Race Director responsibilities here.

Keep in mind events might require bonding, insurance, etc...at the very
least the approval of local officials who may or may not approve of
blatant violation of law with alcohol. Wanna bet Doug's local
Mother's Against Drunk Driving would not view this practice of his so
casually?

I've been runing over thirty years. At this moment I am typing from
the Valdez Public Library terminal. Its pleasant and sunner and I'll
be running
on the town border trail shortly. I had a great run at the entrance
of Wrangell-Elias
park yesterday viewing those snowcapped 16,000 foot mountains.
