    Hi guys,
    which of these bikes would you pick. I have gift certificates that I can use at fogdog.com, sportsauthority.com, dickssportinggoods.com or rei.com and I have a budget of $400.
    This would be my first bike (in about 15 years) and I plan to use it mostly for pavement and some trails.

    [font=Arial]Mongoose Tech 4 $350
    The bike comes equipped with Judy TT fork, Shimano EZ-Fire shifters,
    a front Promax mechnical disc brake, IRC Mythos tires,
    Alloy Linear-Pull Brake rear brake, and Acera Rear Derailleur.
    The frame is Aluminum and very rigid.
    Also, the rear suspension spring is rated at 1200 pounds

    So you're going to buy your first bike ever over the internet and not have the support or service of any local bike shop?

    Could I persuade you to rethink that decision?

    Hi Gruppo,
    I recieved gift certificates from work and would like to use them to buy a bike online. I cannot use them locally.

    I suggest approaching the local bike shop with the gift cert in hand, explaining the situation, and ask which one they support (warranty) and for what fee they would assemble and check the bike over. Then go with that one. Buy all the accessories/clothes from them and you should have a good relationship that will lead to more sales for them.

    And out of those 4 stores, I would go with REI. I think they have a better overall knowledge base of cycing than Sports Authority or [censored]'s. You should be able to go to a local REI and use those GCs... right?
    I also echo the recommendation to talk to a local bike rep before taking that plunge.

    I would go with REI. You can order online and choose local pickup. They also offer higher version of K2 ZED line.
