I have two sets of brake calipers I can use on my bicycle. I would like to put the most effective ones onto my bicycle but am not sure which are the better calipers. They are both lower end.
Given they were to be used with identical brake blocks, such as Kool Stop Salmon, which calipers do you think would be most effective:
1) Dia Compe 500
or
2) Exage Motion
or
3) Not much difference in stopping power to be expected
Both these calipers wil fit the bicycle in question.

OOps! I forgot to mention the brake levers I will be using with either calpers will be Campy Mirage Ergos 2001 model.
I am thinking about having cantilever braze-ons added to the seatstays of this bicycle so the road calipers are a temporary measure.

IIRC, the Exage Motion is a dual pivot caliper; if so, it will be a better match for your brifters.

The Exage Motion calipers are the older single pivot type. So are the Dia Compe 500.
If I do get braze ons for cantilevers it will be for clearance of the brakes in mud and snow.

Yes, and my reply was based on the erroneous memory of Exage Motion calipers being dual pivot (hence the qualifier, "IIRC" - which I obviously did not). So, we agree, "no significant difference".

Sidepulls brakes usually provide better mudguard clearance than dual pivot brakes.
