which seat

Since the only saddles I've ever ridden are an old Pashley saddle, the
KH/Velo and a UDC gel, the obvious choice for me would be a UDC Gel.
I've not really ridden a miyata or viscount, so someone else'll have to
put forward the merits for those particular saddles as far as freestyle
goes.

I know the UDC Gel is comfortable, cheap, low profile & easy to grip,
which counts for a lot in freestyle. Its definitely a lot easier to move
it out from between your legs than a standard KH saddle, and the lower
profile makes it more versatile. Its also a bit stronger IMHO.

I have only used the generic Torker CX saddle and the Torker LX 'Miyata
style' saddle. If the LX saddle is anything like the Miyata, I'd say go
for that; it's comfortable, rather small (maybe i'm just big), and it
has a handle which I find very useful for seat-in hopping and added
leverage for unispins.

I also have to add that I just landed my first unispins yesterday! I was
actually at school and decided I would show off a little by doing a
trick I had never landed and landing it, and I did! Two in a row!

I've seen the Viscount saddles too, and they look very small and almost
pointed at the front like a b*ke seat. I guess they don't interfere with
your leg movements as much as a larger, more padded, seat would,
allowing for more unicycle movement..?

I don't know much about freestyle, but I do know that the Viscount
saddles on my unis are very heavy, and the bumpers come off too
easily.

My favourite saddle is the standard Miyata - good for long rides,
llight, and with a nice handle. Needs a different seat post, though.

I tried a Velo for a while and hated it: heavy, bulky and too much
foam.

Worst saddle of all was the standard hard brittle plastic-covered metal
T-shaped torture implement on my friend's 16 inch Bracycle.

The Miyata has a slightly flatter curve than the thin KH/Velo style
saddle (like the UDC gel saddle). The flatter shape of the Miyata makes
it easier to move around on the saddle to favor your weight to the front
or back of the saddle. The flatter shape also makes it easier to pull
the seat out. The thick KH style seat is just way too deep and curved
and bulky to be ideal for freestyle.

But the Miyata will blow your budget and you don't have the lower cost
Torker LX saddle in the UK. So the UDC gel saddle seems to be the best
choice.

You might want to consider a carbon fiber base later if you find the
plastic seat base to be too wimpy.

One problem with the Miyata is that the seat base is flexy and can break
if you do a lot of skills that flex and sress the seat. If you're going
to be doing a lot of jumping with it where you pull up on the seat
handle you'll want to reinforce the seat. Skills like sideways wheel
walk and side ride also put a lot of stress on the seat and the seat
will need to be reinforced to handle those skills.

Unicycle.com USA sells a 'Miyata stiffener plate'
(http://www.unicycle.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=607). I don't see it
on the UK site. Works well but is a little heavy. I use it in my
freestyle saddle. A carbon fiber base would be better but I haven't
gotten around to that for my freestyle seat yet and for the freestyle
that I do a CF base is not necessary.

The half height KH style seats (like the UDC gel seat) do look
interesting. I'm going to have to try one. Could be a good freestyle
seat.
