I am new to this forum and just joined. I am long time biker though having started back in childhood and never stopped. Love taking my bike in the morning and riding it to work.
So now the summer is about to begin and I wanted to start downhill riding as well since I tried it last year and really liked it. I was wondering if you had any ideas on what kind of sunnies you take with you? I was opting for the Oakley Juliet but find them quiet pricey... Do you know a cheaper alternative with the same kind of looks and goodies?

I have a couple of pair of Oakley Zeros. They are light, comfortable and have a wider lens for better eye coverage. They are a lot cheaper also. They do not have interchangeable lenses.
I go the cheap route for sunglasses, some of the best I have used are 3M Virtua. They can be had for less than $3.00 a pair. I use the clear ones on dark / night rides they are super clear and light. Being frameless, its like they aren't even there.
I don't won't to start a debate but I am have read that cheap sunglasses , at least some, cause the eyes to dilate allowing in more light but the glasses don't actually filter very much UV like a good pair of UV rated glasses do.
My wife got me these oakley.comradarOpen ↗ this past Christmas and I love them. The lenses are interchangeable so if you damage them you can just replace the lens, or if you just need a different lens for a different lighting situation you can just switch them out.
My particular lens is vented so fogging up does not happen as easily. Not quite as expensive as the Juliets either. [IMG]/img/vbsmilies/smilies/wink.gif[/IMG]

Ok your not starting a debate but I have something to add about cheap sunglasses. Although they may be UV rated they are not polarized. I think this is where the problem lays. When riding with cheap glasses down a country lane you will be going in and out of sunlight and shaded areas. As you do so you will have trouble seeing clearly from one condition into the other (at least I do). Safety glasses have performed by far the worse for me. I do buy my sunglasses off the discount racks and have found that the only ones that ever worked for me have had labeling refering to polarized. I also try out every pair I buy on my ride home in the car if they fail to meet my standard I just return them the next time I go to the store. One brand I have had good luck with is "Fila" ussually 10 to 15 bucks on sale.

In the sporting goods dept. at Wal Mart you will find polarized wrap arounds for about 19 bucks and some stores have them with bifocals in various strengths too. That what I use. Good luck.
