I've been building wheels for myself and friends using a Minoura stand for
about 9 years now and have not seen a reason to buy another truing stand.

IMO, the dishing tool is more important unless you build wheels all day long
and need a very high end truing stand. That self centering BS is just
that -- B.S. If you are trying to save money, buy the dishing tool and use
a fork to build a truing stand. If you really are saving your pennies, you
could probably build a decent dishing tool out of wood. Otherwise, get the
Park one.

like the plastic parts that came with the sturdy frame. No

All of the TS-7 models come w/ the dishing tool. Just get the least
expensive one you can find. I own a TS-7 that I have not used in three
years. It is a good, strong unit, but it is heavy and does not travel well.
The plastic parts are fine. You can get the dish pretty close by just
flipping the wheel. I still use an old Minoura stand that folds into a very
thin and portable unit. It is a real piece of lop-sided [censored] only worthy of
the trash bin but it has a decent dishing tool so I continue to hang on to
it.

If you need to pack and travel w/your truing stand then the TS-7 is not
good. Otherwise, it is a nice unit. Slow to use..., but nice.

A good traveling setup would be the cheapy Minoura stand and this dishing
tool:

That's the same one that comes w/the TS-7. Park has a nicer one that is
faster to use. For the home mech. it is overkill, tho.

Most of this is just my opinion, of course. Your mileage may vary.
