which uni brand is the best

That was easy. As far as I know, only one of those brands is backed by a
top-level *unicycle rider* whose goal is to improve unicycle technology
rather than sell big numbers.

Sorry Kris, I know you'd be happy selling big numbers, but the emphasis
on a quality product is what makes you #1. And those numbers will
continue to increase!

Most of the other companies (not all) are geared toward selling large
volumes of affordable unicycles, and making the compromises necessary
for that to work. Also, most companies selling unicycles do little (or
nothing) toward improving the product.

Best for what? Freestyle, street, Muni? The best I think for freestyle
is a custom one made by a guy in MN (wiganoowski or something like that)
followed by Miyata. For Muni, I don't know but have a KH and have been
happy with it so far. Street, no idea. Long distance riding, Coker. And
so on...

If I may speak for Dave, I think he's looking at brands, not specific
products. Which brand is best? If the question were formed by which
product, it would be a lot harder to answer.

Also, I understand Wyganowski is no longer making frames. Is this true?
His stuff is (was) real solid. Great for pros!

Ya but but what brand is best for what? Just plain unicycling? Muni?
.... Like I'd say Wyganowski is the best brand but it would suck for
Muni'ing so therefore it's not be best brand. I just think he needs to
specify best brand for ______.

Yes its sad but true that Wyganowski is retired and no longer makes
uni's but if someone was really serious about having him make one, I'm
sure you could pay him a certain price to build another one...😎

Bedford is mostly a reseller. It gets a little fuzzy though, when you
spec part of a unicycle, or add branding to it...

Something similar could be said for frame and accessory builders like
Wyganowski. Great brand, but he doesn't actually make unicycles.

Unicycle.com is another great brand, but they are primarily a reseller.
However they spec several of their unicycles from the factory, and sell
many items that are manufactured just for them.

So it's hard to know exactly what counts as a brand. I still like KH,
and got to agree that Miyata still has about the best product in the
Freestyle area. Miyata barely exists as a brand in the U.S. though.
Great company, but we always had trouble getting their products over
here. Miyata is famous for lots of innovation, mostly in unicycle
saddles. Nobody else even came close until KH came along.

I picked Sun because they're cheap(which is a big deal for me), they
last a long time if you treat them right, they look cool, and they make
😄GIRAFFES😄, except the seats STINK in my opinion.

Koxx One is also backed by a top-level unicycle rider, Yoggi.

Next to that and the KH, the next best brands are UDC and QU-AX. Both of
these companies have produced unicycles that are affordable and of
decent quality, but unlike KH and Koxx One, they are focused on the
business side, which does mean that price is a huge factor, so they have
to cut corners.

The Bedford frames come from the same manufacturer (in Taiwan?) as a lot
of other unicycles. Bedford does make specifications on them, but I'd
say Bedford is more of a brand and reseller, than a manufacturer.

With my limited experience I voted KH, butI'm a great fan of KOXX 1,
too!

I ride a QU-AX but I am sure, my next unicycle will be a KH trials used
for riding street! Until then, I really will not know what the
difference between QU-AX and KH really is, but I have this idea that
there is one...

I didn't know Koxx was Yoggi. Cool! I've got to keep up with these
things...

If GB4 was intentionally left off, it may be for the same reason(s) as
Wyganowski. I think he only makes frames and accessories. No? I guess he
delivers some finished unicycles. But he's more of a botique builder,
putting out one at a time. And currently, Wyganowski seems to be retired
and George Barnes is in a position to not be able to produce much.
Hopefully this will change in the future!

What about Nimbus?

I think the proof about which brands are in it to improve the sport as a
whole rather than go for massive numbers of sales are the people
involved in the newest developments (as major companies). Those being
Onza, KH & Nimbus (UDCUK) for the new KH/Onza Hub, and Koxx with the
isis splined hub.

I think KH has done most for unicycle durability, however Nimbus has
done more for unicycle affordability. Koxx have gone for a major
reduction in weight, and Onza have gone for standardisation of parts
between different unicycle makes (splined hubs in particular).

Every brand has its own goals, but where volume is discounted, these 4
have done the most in different ways for our sport.

On the cutting corners comment... It is worth pointing out that we at
Unicycle.com have strived to produce products that are of high quality
and at a reasonable price. As I am sure you will be aware we are not a
box shifting company that knows nothing about unicycles and do not care
about the products, we make unicycles for unicyclists.

There are a lot of things that are incorporated within the Nimbus range
that considerably increase the cost of production and are not obvious,
but we are not willing to compromise on. For instance the rim is a
double wall eyeleted rim which is way better than any other manufacture
fits to their freestyle unicycles. All the spokes are stainless steel.
The cranks are again the best that are currently available anywhere,
both in function and strength (and are made by Qu-Ax). The Nimbus II is
also lighter than the Koxx. The hub actually costs more by it self than
some cheap unicycles cost in total!

It is also worth pointing out that the Unicycle.com frames are not sold
to anyone else, they are commissioned for us specially to our design
specifications.
