For years after W.W.II the Russians were leaders in brain research, Why? During a large part of the 2nd WW very few of their troops were equipped with helmets so they suffered for more head injuries.
Many the medical rounds in a neurology ward is called "watering the vegetables"
ahhhh? I'm at a loss for words. The top of your head is the most visible point. Using the synaptic threshold of SUV pilots, helmet colors are inadequate colors for closing the pilot's brain circuits in recognition of BICYCLE DEAD AHEAD.
There's a major post on helmet safety or not. The major question raised here is not to wear or not to wear but to wear a helmet to increase visibility not decrease visibility.
NOT run over is the goal before not splitting the head open AFTER first impact.
VISIBILITY is primary, head safety is secondary but head safety with head visibility now you're talkin' turkey.

I don't know that it matters to motorists. How many times have motorists SEEN the bicycle and just assumed that it would stop/slow/turn in plenty of time to avoid an accident - so they cut it off regardless of visibility issues.

The foam bicycle hat would make an acceptable mounting point for a strobe light.

The only truly effective helmet would feature a superlight auto-targeting terawatt laser on a 360/270 gimbal that would autovaporize cars, trucks and SUVs operated by people talking on cell phones. Of course, you'd need a lot of high-temp gas outflow protection...

I should think that the fact that
a) Scharf (who won't provide citations for the claims he makes that are in contradiction to the wealth of information available); b) Sornson (who can't do simple maths and prefers to 'ignore data"; c) Ozark (an admitted pro-MHL crazy); d) Pirerro (who randomly threatens violence when asked polite questions about his reasoning); and e) Clare-at-Snyder (who wants to use religion as his guidance but gets very upset and refuses to answer questions when that is pointed out)
are in favour of helmets is sufficient indication that there is probably little to recommend them.
But if that's not enough, try www.cyclehelmets.org.
