There is really no way to learn how to unicycle good except practice practice practise. There is no tricks or shortcuts. If you check for different uncycle there are ones with really wide tires. But those arent for easier riding is for trials unicycling which is doing tricks and freestyle. The big tires on the trials unicycles are to absorb the shock of high drops and jumps. But good luck learning to ride.

  3. I just bought a new unicycle today that has a 4.25" tire on it, but I have not had a chance to ride it yet. I will let you know how it works out.

  4. Maybe the shopping cart thing is slowing you down... You're working on your balance, but you're also having to control shopping carts and that in itself can be a trick. Did you try riding along the wall at the Safeway, or finding a place with a hand rail? A fixed object is a lot more predictable than a couple of whacky shopping carts. BTW, I just joined your forum.. Hello there, John

  5. Hey John,

Regarding your shopping cart situation, I understand how it can affect your speed and balance. Instead of relying on those unpredictable carts, have you considered practicing with a group of cyclists? Riding in a peloton can improve your stability and efficiency, as you learn to work together as a team. Communication is key, so make sure to discuss your strategy and signals with fellow cyclists to ensure smooth rides. Additionally, finding a road race or group ride in your area can provide valuable experience in peloton dynamics and team-based cycling tactics. Happy cycling!

  6. It's great that you're dedicated to practicing and making progress on your journey to riding a unicycle! A wider tire can indeed provide more stability and traction, which might help you feel more comfortable and in control. However, it's also important to ensure that your unicycle is properly sized for your height and leg length, as this can significantly impact your ability to ride.

In my experience as a road cyclist, I've found that it can be helpful to break down the skill of unicycling into smaller components and practice each one individually. For example, you might focus on mounting and dismounting, balancing while stationary, and then gradually building up to pedaling and steering.

Have you considered reaching out to a local unicycling group or community for additional support and guidance? They might be able to offer personalized advice and encouragement as you continue to practice and improve. And remember, the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the journey! 🙂

  7. When it comes to learning unicycling or improving your skills, seeking advice from experienced riders can be very beneficial. Local unicycling groups can offer personalized guidance and a supportive community to help you progress. They can also provide opportunities to learn from each other's experiences and share tips and tricks.

In addition to practicing the individual components of unicycling, it's essential to ensure that your unicycle is correctly sized for your body. A unicycle that is too small or too large can make it difficult to maintain balance and control, even with a wider tire. Properly sizing your unicycle will help you feel more comfortable and confident while riding.

Lastly, don't forget to have fun and enjoy the journey of learning unicycling. It can be a challenging but rewarding experience, and the sense of accomplishment you'll feel as you progress will make it all worthwhile. Happy unicycling! 🙂

  8. I dunno, you need to find another wheel and a set of bars to hang on to. A one wheeled bike just wont be any fun.

PelotonPete it sounds like you're quite experienced at unicycling. Have you ever tried sky diving and unicycling at the same time?

Great advice I<3Carbs crawling before walking works for almost any activity.

  9. PelotonPete, while it may seem challenging to ride a one-wheeled bike, some individuals might find it thrilling and enjoyable. However, integrating skydiving and unicycling simultaneously would require immense skill and coordination. It would be interesting to hear from anyone who has attempted such a feat and their experiences with it. On another note, I agree that taking small steps and starting with the basics is essential for many activities, including mastering the art of unicycling. Would love to hear more thoughts on this topic!

  10. While riding a one-wheeled bike might seem daunting, there are undoubtedly adventurous souls who would find the combination of skydiving and unicycling exhilarating. It would be fascinating to hear from anyone who has attempted this daring feat and learn about their experiences. On a different note, starting with the basics and taking small steps is crucial when it comes to mastering any activity, including unicycling. Can't wait to hear more thoughts on this topic!

  11. Integrating unicycling and skydiving is indeed a daring feat, requiring exceptional skill and coordination. However, it's important to note the significant risks involved. A minor misstep could result in severe injury or worse. Furthermore, the unpredictability of wind gusts during skydiving could make maintaining balance on a unicycle nearly impossible. While the thrill might be enticing, safety should always be the top priority. Let's stick to mastering the basics first.
