  1. Has anyone heard that the YHA's at Kirkby Stephen and Keld are closing down?
Does anyone have any comments to make?

I thought they had all closed down as the YHA went bust some time ago (two
    years or so ago?).

According to BBC look north last week, a fair few hostels will close down in
Northern England area. The YHA then plans to spend the money they get from
these and buy bigger more popular hostels near main cities and towns.

They (YHA) also plan to get into helping to find alternative accommedation
    in the areas they've vacated.

The Pennine Way seems to have been hit hard.

You could be seeing into the future, but I think you remember the
    shops going bust.

I believe they have just lost the plot. They have just become a budget
hotel chain and as such they should have their charitable status removed.

Not a good idea although I agree its a dire situation removing their
charitable status will just hasten further closures and maybe even the
Lake District will be hit hard such as Honister Pass Hostel.

Oops. Yes, quite right. Sorry about that.

Mind you, I may well be seeing into the future in this case, perhaps I
should do the lottery this weekend. :-)
