BBC Radio 4: Ashford's Future
"Investigating the future of transport in this sleepy town and wonders if
its growth can accommodate a truly sustainable transport system"
Covers just about every aspect including sustainable trasport, integrated,
dominance of car, trains good, trains bad, cycling suicidle, cycle paths Vs
pedestrians that want to walk on the pretty coloured pavement etc.
Worth listening to on the listen again service.
A good programme, but rather depressing in outlook.

The big problem with Ashford is that the town centre is effectively an
island cut off from the rest of the world by a four-lane ring road. And
there is no easy access for pedestrians - only about two crossing points.
Possibly the worst example of town planning I have ever seen.

Quite, the phrase "sleepy town" doesn't come to mind.
