Bike part prices in China

Hi,

I am off to China on a business trip at relatively short notice. Can any
one tell me what the price of parts is like over there? I am specifically
after an XT crankset or something similar. I'd like to think that given the
number of bicycles you see in photo's etc from China that bike shops should
be plentiful but i am not sure about the range they are likely to carry??

If it makes a difference I will be in Beijing.

Thanks in advance.

I'll hazard a guess (and a guess is all it is) that high end parts won't
be readily available, and when you do find them, they will be priced
similarly to what you see elsewhere in the world.

Cheers,
Jules

there are plenty of shops in Beijing selling high end at good prices compared to oz.

The MTB community is well served.

here are two shops for you:

1) The Giant Beijing Flagship Shop is a good place to start, copy the graphic and give to a cab driver or guide and you will find it easily.

Directions: The shop is located on the corner of a new white office building (Guoheng Qiye Dasha), just north of the North Third Ring Road. Go north from Madianqiao and stay right next to the Badaling Expressway (don't go on the Expressway!). Turn right at the first traffic lights. Go east for about 400m until you see a newly constructed white office building on the north side of the street (Guoheng Qiye Dasha). The shop is on the ground floor of the east corner of the building.

Opening hours: Monday - Sunday from 09h00 to 18h30.

2) or this one , its called Windspeed Bike Shop (Xingrufeng)

They have good Shimano gear and a Shimano mechanic.

Directions: the shop is located south-west of Landao Shopping Centre (Xindongjie), not quite across from the Chaoyang District government building. Try to find the government building, walk/drive/bike a bit to the South until you reach some kind of T-junction. Actually, the main road goes right here, but you need to turn left into the little alleyway. The bike shop is the third or fourth building on the left (on the right there is only fencing, and a guard --- don't ask me what he is doing there, I don't have a clue).
Opening hours: Monday - Sunday from 09h00 to 20h00.

Thanks for the info. That Giant-beijing shop is only a very short cab ride
(It is -1 there at the moment!!) from where I am working/staying. I will be
sure to check it out and report back on prices etc.

Yes please, my wife is going to China in a week or two and if the price
is right maybe I'll ask her to bring back an ultegra crankset and
bottom bracket for me. Reckon you could note the price of those for me
while you're in there EG?

Unfortunately I am not a roadie but if you give me the Shimano part numbers
you want prices on I will post them whilst I am over there.

I half suspect that this is a slow time of the year for the bike shops given
the current weather conditions, a high of 0 degrees and lows that vary
between -5 and -12 !! So I may be able to haggle a bit harder.

Ultegra 6600 chainset and bottom bracket cups. I don't know a specific
part number, but Ultegra groupsets are a common enough item, the sort
of thing you'll find fitted standard on any mid level (circa $2,000)
roadie so if this is a place that sells stuff for higher end road bikes
they'll have it.

This thing "FC-6600 Double Crankset Crankset with Integral Bottom
Bracket." (175mm cranks, if available):

And a pair of these "Shimano Ultegra 10-Speed Bearing Cups" (English
thread):

Or alternatively these "Shimano Dura Ace 10-Speed Bottom Bracket Cups"
ones, which are the next model up, but for some reason cheaper at
Probikekit:

what? they close at 1830?

The bludgers!

:p

The bike shops I used to frequent in the Far East stayed open later
than that.
I remember going to shops after dinner time (8pm onwards).

Then again, they were shops selling generic frames with "Look" and
"Colnago" stickers on them ...
