Bike touring and solo free-camping

Hi; I am considering a lengthy bike ride from Moncton New
Brunswick towards the west (Canada)

Having time off till september (3+ months) and enough money
but no credit cards, I was thinking of the free-camping idea
in the woods by myself at night with only the bears and the
mosquitoes to worry about, and the occasional skunk.

Any experienced bikers out there with some ideas and/or
recommendations?

I've only camped through BC; but there are always places you
can set up a tent a little way from the road. We never
cooked, we only camped; so we did not have to go very far.
Things to be aware of are Weekend nights and party spots;
farmer's fields with bulls in them, and generally messing up
private property. If you are only sleeping, you need very
little space and just a bit of cover from the road.

If you are cooking as well, I suspect your requirements
would be greater.

I'm actually more worried about the wildlife "dropiing in"?

Maybe consider a hammock tent that would keep you off the
ground (and MUCH = more confortable). I recently got a Speer
hammock and have really enjoyed it's comfort and por=
tability @ ~2lbs - including BUG Netting!

Hennessy Hammock : Great stuff. You just need trees (!)

Take a northerly route through the prairies, there's still
forest up there. Work your way up to Flin Flon and head west
from there to Prince Albert National Park and Meadow Lake.
Some nice country through there. In the south it's nothing
but open fields and barbed-wire fences, not great for free-
camping. As for wildlife, I never have trouble while free-
camping because the animals aren't conditioned. They mostly
haven't seen humans much and don't associate them with food
like they do in park campsites. That's been my experience
anyway, and I've free-camped all over BC and one trip
through the northern prairies to Gillam, MB. Have fun!

Oh yes, and I'll second the recommendation of a Hennessy
Hammock or similar.

In Ontario, many of the Conservation Authority areas (a not-quite-a-
Provincial Park) do not allow camping per se, but have
little to no staff, so it's not a big deal. They also have
nice trees for hammocks or tarps.

What's the situation in NB? I'm planning a 7-9 day ride
there this summer.

I've never done any free-camping in NB but there are lots of
areas with plenty of good growth for the hammock. Its also
quieter and more down home style.

Nice beaches best in July
