Pez posts a cyclingnews ricochet with still no mention of the
L'Equipe affair....
Big George Suffers The Slings And Arrows Of Bad Fans
It seems that very few of the enormous crowd present were happy to see
George Hincapie the winner on the day. Cyclingnews pays special care to
the topic:
"The atmosphere at the end of the GP Plouay - the most popular one-day
race in France - was very similar to the 1998 edition of the Breton
event when Pascal Hervé won in the wave of the Festina scandal. Never
had a winner received such little applause in the village that hosted
the World Championships in 2000. No more than one-third of the
spectators in the grandstands cheered for George Hincapie, not to
mention those whistling and booing."
A ridiculous showing by a 100,000 strong group of specators. It's
unfortunate that a hard-earned victory had to be tainted by boorish
fans, especially when the fans' angst had not a thing to do with
Hincapie or his sixth win of the season.
