TIMBERLINE LODGE, Ore. - Al Smudz of Monroe has captured the solo championship in the annual Race Across Oregon bicycle race. His time of 35 hours, 30 minutes, in the state's 534-mile ultra-marathon cycling event beat runner-up Glenn Johnson of Vancouver, Wash., by more than 3 1/2 hours.
