My headstem uses plated steel M7 bolts (2 at each end) and I would
like to replace them with stainless steel bolts for corosion
resistance.

So far I have tried a few local bolt specialists and trawled the
internet.

The closest I have come to finding some is US online stores that don't
ship internationally.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try these guys, you may even get a choice of grades of stainless.

Make your own (or get a tame machinist to); when I needed the same
thing for a Gitane triple-tree that's what I did - got 5/16"
socket-head capscrews and turned them down and threaded them.

Cut threads, they were...(cue crazy jim beam rant)

try www.mcmastercarr.com

Incredible inventory. They ship anywhere, and likely at reasonable
prices.

Everything except M7 stainless cheese-head.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions (and in aus.bicycle and Bicycle
Victoria Forums).

I had no luck with the specialist bolt suppliers, so I have ordered
from http://www.biketoolsetc.com and had them delivered to
a US address.

Lots of luck finding any M7 bolts at all. Several years ago when an M7
SHCS broke on the proprietary saddle rail clamp on my Vitus 992, I did
an exhaustive search (in the U.S.) for replacements. No joy.

I finally got replacements (gratis) by sending a letter to the Vitus
factory in France. :-|

BTW, I see someone suggested having a machinist rethread a larger SHCS
down to 7mm. It would be a lot cheaper to retap the stem to a slightly
larger size, either 8mm or some appropriate English size.

....and as I recall carry no 7mm SHCSs.
