Tom, try to understand, I know that it is hard for you to follow but try:

The "Law" as recorded in the OT gives rules of living, such as where to and
how to **** so that "God" doesn't step in it! <VBG>
Deuteronomy 12
1 These are the statutes and judgments, which ye shall observe to do in
the land, which the LORD God of thy fathers giveth thee to possess it, all
the days that ye live upon the earth.
2 Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye
shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the
hills, and under every green tree:
3 And ye shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars, and burn
their groves with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their
gods, and destroy the names of them out of that place.
4 Ye shall not do so unto the LORD your God.
etc., etc., etc., ad nauseum!

Remember that God is Jesus and Jesus is God, or so the story goes. <VBG>

The Pope, God's representative on Earth, was screwing and prostituting his
own 17 year old daughter, as were his sons.

Rotten to the CoreIn the last years (the 1490's) before the protestant
reformation and the dawning of the age of reason, the Catholic church had
reached levels of depravity rivalled only by pagan Rome.
Pope Alexander VI, Roderigo Borgia, was at the focus of the protestant rage.
This Pope was known for many things, his whores, his many ******* children,
his orgies in the Vatican, his habit of deflowering virgin brides
immediately after overseeing their marriages- but one of his illegitimate
daughters, Lucrezia Borgia, was even more well known.

She was sexually satisfying not only her 60 year old father, the pope, but
also her ******* brothers and most of the Vatican guard. She was famous for
her orgies, and would entertain whole groups of men on Sacred ground.
Madonna, eat your heart out.

Brothers killed brothers, and the Holy Father himself had to have one of his
boys killed to keep him away from the voracious 17 year old nymphomaniac.
This is history you will never learn in school, but it is entirely true, and
well documented. Here are details.

Let's take these in order. The Church IS NOT repeat IS NOT "encourage(ing)
people to have unprotected sex". It is Catholic doctrine that you do not
have sex with anyone but your spouse and that sex is a blessing from God
whose purpose is to reproduce the human race.

It is (apparently) your position that sex is for having fun, promiscuity is
harmless and shouldn't be discouraged. The Catholic Church does not deviate
from their policies by issuing stupid contradictory moral and ethical codes.

> Then there is the AIDS explosion.
> The Missionaries KNOW what percentage of these children die horrible,
> lingering, painful deaths.

But apparently YOU don't know what the problem is: endemic STD's and
wholesale promiscuity and prostitution in Africa are the problems there. If
you suppose that telling everyone there to take birth control pills and wear
rubbers is going to fix it you are incredibly naive. There are areas of
central Africa where the cost of birth control pills would be equal to the
month income of a reasonably well paid individual.

The ANSWER is to promote moral values and the few places in Africa that are
applying this method are seeing the only drops in the HIV rates.

> There is NO excuse, and I have NO sympathy for encouraging people to have
> children they KNOW are going to die horribly.

I find this interesting. You value your life but you don't value the lives
of Africans. But between you and me - I believe that most Africans value
their own lives even if you don't.

So we have it here from Henry Etta that the present day Christian and Jewish
religions preach murder of non-believers. Hopefully he'll be #1 on the list
if he turns out to be correct.

Henry, it must make you feel incredibly impotent to know that it wasn't
Christians flying airliners into the World Trade towers. Or are you
re-writing that history as well?

C'on Tom, it was Christians that were flying those that tried to bomb
Vietnam back into the stone age, wasn't it? <G>

You mean those priests that were raping those little boys and girls were
actually helping those little kids to receive a "blessing from God"? <G>

I'll agree that the church is not encouraging them to have sex, it is however
insisting that birth control is wrong. There comes a time when you have to bend
your beliefs to meet reality. In my mind it is far more immoral to take the
chirch's line and insist on a policy that makes a bad reality a whole lot
worse, rather than do whatever it takes to start saving peoples lives. there is
nothing wrong with teaching abstinence, and the world would be a whole lot
better place if more people kept their pants on, but wishing doesn't make it
so. You as a tech type should know that there comes a time where you have to go
ahead and try everything to find a workable solution, even if it's an ugly one.
I think the church should care more about people's lives than preaching
thatbirth control is a sin.

Now see there Bill - when you decide to answer in an honest manner you hit
the nail on the head. And you are a bit wrong there. The Catholic Church
doesn't disprove of birth control if it is done in a natural manner such as
using the
rhythm method. Now you can certainly argue that it isn't as effective as
using a birth control pill or a condom and I wouldn't disagree. But, again,
their moral code doesn't deviate from their spiritual foundations. Because
you believe that Africans would be better off by interference with the birth
cycle doesn't mean that a religion should change their beliefs.

> There comes a time when you have to bend your beliefs to

Think about this Bill - YOU aren't willing to bend your beliefs, why would a
spirtual organization want to reduce theirs?

> You as a tech type should know that there comes a time where you have to

Uhh, would you agree that killing every third person in Africa would solve
the problems? Would you be willing to use that as a "workable solution"?

I don't happen to be very religious, but I sure can't fault the Catholic
Church for their moral stands on all of the issues I've studied.

So now you're telling us that Vietnam was caused by Catholics huh? Is that
because John Kennedy was a Catholic?

No it's because Henry is a fool, and is trying to wiggle out of this somehow.

Nicely taken out of context. You could stick to your beliefs, herd the Cathars
into the church, torch it and proclaim the greatness of God.

Or you can actually show some of that compassion and love you claim to have
and save some lives.
Your choice.

Hate to reply to myself but I should have added that I am sure that Tom has
the welfare of people in mind and does care. We disagree fundamentally at times
and are both hard headed. I will never accuse Tom of not caring, or not doing
things to help people.
At least Tom is actually doing what he can, and what he thinks is right to
help people. That's why I'll argue with him, and am convinced that he's
completely wrong on some subjects, but will not attack him personally.
You I know nothing about except the inflexible line you insist on. You really
need to meet my Evangelical Minister friend Rundy. We also disagree, but I've
donated to his church, volunteered at events, and helped him help members of
his church. I was never sure if I was coming home to three kids or six, and the
same for him, since they drifted back and forth. He is a sincerely good man,
rock solid in his beliefs and would like to share them with you, but he will
give you space and allow you to have your own beliefs.

Montsegur wasn't the biggest of the massacres, not by a long shot. In 1209
Beziers was put to the sword(estimates range from slightly under 10,000 up
to perhaps twice that): the papal legate's troops were ordered not to
discriminate between Catholics or Cathars but rather to "Kill them all.
God will recognize his own."

The only disagreement we seem to have is when you think that people should
change their true beliefs because you think things would be better another
way. That's an assumption and I've seen one too many assumptions proven
wrong.

I believe that people are basically good. I believe that the government
(well, every American administration except Clinton's and maybe Harding's)
is trying to do the right thing. I may not agree with all of what they're
doing (Lord knows I'm REALLY ****** about the open borders) but you have to
give them the same chance you would with someone you agree with completely.
Clinton didn't do everything bad, but I'm convinced that he just didn't care
about the USA. I think that Kerry is another Clinton. He doesn't have any
reason to run for President but the fact that he thinks that he could get
elected. I may put my tongue in my cheek when I hear that Bush ran for
President because he believed that God wanted him to, but that's one hell of
a lot better reason than Kerry ever had. As Senator he hasn't even bothered
to vote save about 1/4th the time and then only for ultra-Liberal causes or
because some vote or another could threaten his re-election.

I think that Garzelli is going to win whether it looks good right now or
not.

My ignorance may be showing, but is this the origin of the word
"catharthis"?
