Vuelta Ciclista al País Vasco

Samuel Sanchez wins again today. By the way: at eurosport.com they have a live video stream of the Tour of Basque country. Tomorrow it starts at 15:00 (CET):) .

Euskaltel got 2 wins with Sanchez who is actually born in Asturias (although he was raised in the Euskadi cycling foundation). I don't think that it bothered at all to Madariaga and co. They needed badly to win. In fact, during the years that they had to earn their TdF place they were performing well. When they had it secured and focused on winning the TdF they messed it all up.

There's time for Di Luca to be ready for Giro d' Italia. The Giro del Trentino will show us the form of the main contenders, as also the Tour of Romandy.

PS Jaizkibel it is, Lim. It's the main feature of the classica of San Sebastian right out of the city's outskirts.

Thanks for that Dimos : yeah it features heavily in the San Sebastian Classic.

Yes, that's what i have noticed to, Go Boogie Go!

4th Stage: Freire wins...and Samuel Sanchez second! That man deserves to win the Vuelta al Pais Vasco!!

5th Stage: Thomas Voeckler wins and Voight second. Tomorrow the last stage, a 24km hard TT.

I reckon Contador should win overall. He is a good TTist, though I must confess I don't know how good Sanchez is. Realisticly though there are a lot of people who can win considering the time gaps are so small.

Well A TT is a race for specialists.......boogerd will never win a big race, cause he can't TT for instance. I also think Contador will win the race, maybe T. dekker for the TT-win.......

Contador is the odds on favorite but I wouldn't count out Sanchez. He has been EEs best all around, year round rider for a few years now. He is consistently up there and has a motor. I would not count out him digging deep on this TT in his home race. The Basque are a proud people.

Boogerd is not an ITT specialist but he was pretty strong in the ITT (21 kilometers) of the Tirreno-Adriatico, i think he will manage to get some protour points by coming back in the top ten of the overall. I read at Rabobank's tema website that Thomas Dekker is going for the ITT win today....

The overall will be won by Contador i think...

Contador is the favourite because is a ITT specialist but be careful with Samuel Sanchez. He´s on form and he lives very close to Zalla(The ITT begins and ends in this location), so he knows every km of the stage. Be careful too with Cadel Evans and Toni Colom.

The Rabobank team website published a statement that Boogerd will not start at the ITT, he will concentrate at the Amstel Gold Race.

Sanchez went out too fast and cracked. Contador was OK. Dekker, Rebellin, , Cadel Evans, awful. Valverde does an amazing TT and almost takes GC. Valverde's TT in this race is definitely news. We know he can climb and sprint. This was an impressive TT for him. 2nd on GC. This makes the tour even more interesting.

Yeah Valverde surprised me to..... Doesn't look like the TdF gonna be a Basso/Ullrich thing... (If Ullrich get fit on time..)

This bodes well for my perhaps goofy prediction that Valverde will win the TdF this year. I made it after the World Champs last year and have since wished I could rescind it ... but honor forces me to stand by it and today's result makes me feel a bit better.

Also a good showing from Sastre. Strong form has been shown in many areas for CSC.

Marvelous for Jose Angel Gomez. Still a young guy I believe...

Gomez rode well all week - on the attack and keeping himself in contention.

Have to say that these week long Tours are too biased towards the TT stage - there was no uphill finish to give the climbers chance to get away and really open a gap. So riders are encouraged to follow the right wheels, save their energy and have a good TT - doesn't make for great attacking riding.

Maybe they need to have time bonuses to even things up a bit?

Yeah, have to agree with that. Just look at the change in the top ten from stage 5 to stage 6. Rebellin, Sanchez, Bertagnolli all out.

As for stage 5, happy to see Voeckler pop up again.

Harry, don't lose faith. This does bode well. Since Ullrich probably won't even start, one bad day for Basso and your man could be there. If Cunego, Basso, Valverde, Landis, and (crossing my fingers), Ullrich all show up ready to race, this will be a truly epic tour. The future battles between Cunego and Valverde will be truly amazing because they are so similar.... getting ahead of myself.
