  1. Well, part of my 20 mi night ride tonight involved some road riding.
I really hate pavement, (as some of you know) and was reminded again
    why tonight.

I was crossing a street at a light and passed a jeep that honked this
big-ass "AAAWOOGA" horn right in front of me as I passed, and the
little red-neck driver leaned out the window and yelled at me to fall
    over.

So I did what any self-respecting civilized gentleman would do. I
pulled over as soon as I could, dropped my bike, grabbed a short 2x4
that I found in the bushes, and yelled at him to pull over! He drove
off. Probably a good thing, since I rarely look back on losing my
temper and think, gee, what a wise move that was.

O well, I'm just not used to dodging idiots and swallowing the load of
[censored] roadies have to eat every day.

It absolutely was a good thing... you could have ended up in a long legal
battle if he felt threatened and decided to charge you with assault. Or
worse, ended up with the 2x4 across your face or abdomen if the tables
    turned.

I just got finished with a long legal fiasco after a night in jail for quite
a stupid reason (on my part), so pardon me if I seem overly snippy.

  3. Boring and riskey. But I do commute every working day.
And when I think I've seen it all some fool pulls another one. Just
yesterday this ass makes a left turn from the right turn lane thu 3
lanes of cars trying to follow their right of way.

I disagree. I think the driver should have been stabbed repeatedly.
    Again, one reporter's opinion.

You're absolutely right, of course, but the macho-fest felt good for letting
off steam that had accumulated mainly from work, which has been pretty
intense lately. I was also taken by surprise, since I'm not used to getting
abused like a roadie, and I didn't have or take time to process a mature
response. A regrettable lapse in self control. I won't let it happen
again, unless I'm riding with my buddies Smith and Wesson, of course.

I blow up all the time, too. But I'm a lot more careful about who or when I
do than I was before. The various inanimate objects in my own home can't
    sue me back 😉

You remind me a little of my brother, at least as far as temperament goes.
Funny thing is, he really is a roadie. I'm just glad he hasn't been run
over, beaten, or shot yet. I'm blessed with a lot of patience, so in that
respect I'd be OK as a roadie. I even actually do a few real road rides
every year, although it's not my preferred type of riding. It's usually just
what I have to make do with when I can't be on dirt for some reason
(weather, injury, pressure from wife, etc).

Just try to remember that a cool head will prevail, and a hot head might get
you into trouble (including being killed). It's not like you're wrong to get
mad, but it generally doesn't help the situation and I think is best
avoided. If you stay cool, you might be able to get a plate number and get
them into some real trouble. That can be satisfying and generally carries a
    lot less risk.

    Be cool,
    Matt

I won't repeat the story here, but I had to defend myself in my own home
several years back, and came close to getting prosecuted and sued for
hurting the doof and when my wife called an ambulance, we lit up the whole
neighborhood with the fire dept (?), the paramedics, and who knows who all
showing up to join the party. Got lucky, and they all decided not to call
the police, but the doof tried to make a claim on my homeowners' insurance.
They shut him down pretty fast.

In my line of work, I know how much trouble you can get into if you're not
    very careful. And even then.

Good advice, and I'll either have to take the advice and accept that a
fairly high level of abuse goes with the territory, or stay on dirt. I'll
keep my cool. In fact, a cool franklin in the hands of a Samoan can balance
the books quite well, too. ;~)

Kind of like the Harvard student that was just sentance to 6-8 years for
voluntary manslaughter. He killed somebody in self defense and is going to
    jail for defending himself......

Dolts are an integral part of the road nowadays. Now you know.

As our esteemed president once said; "There's an old saying in Tennessee - I
know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee - that says, fool me once, shame
on - shame on you. Fool me - you can't get fooled again."

_ Dolts have always been a part of being a roadie. It seems to me
they were much worse in the past then they are now. Mostly now it
just seems to be people being ignorant and unconcious, not
    deliberately trying to kill/harass you.
