What would be a result of a half marathon where you would not start laughing and saying "that person should never have run it"? Say, 5 hours is probably pathetic. How about, say, 2.5 hours? Or 2 hrs 15 min?
In my mind finishing is what's important - screw the clock. A potential problem area might be that the RD has a time where they shut down the clock and you might not make the results.
Be advised, if you bonk at this race, I'm going whisper 'I told you so." 😉

Or the race may have to re-open the course to traffic at a certain time; if you'r not faster than a certain pace (which the race info can tell you) you'll have to finish in the sag wagon.
MCM has the famous "beat the bridge" time limit. I don't know if they have a finish line limit if you beat the bridge but then have a drastic slowdown. bj
I have a time goal for a marathon coming up. I do not plan to kill myself. But I am going out at a pace that will meet that goal, if I fail, I fail. At this point running another 3:10 has little meaning to me. I want to break 3. It is arbitrary, but a goal I set for myself.
For many of us, we are not going to win races so races turn into tests against ourselves to see how well we can do.
If another person has a different philosophy, fine; just do not tell me that aiming for a time goal is not worth it.

"Screw the clock" is good advice 🙂 Seriously... aim for 2:30... keep it in mind... but you must be flexible. Don't kill yourself for the sake of some arbitrary time goal. It's not worth it.

Hell no! Mow the grass while it's still green and you still have a working mower. 😉 I tried to break the three hour mark for about 4 years. The best I did was 3:06. By age 45, a very busy work schedule and my speed fire grew dimmer. I finally took advantage of the extra time Boston gave me and had more fun in the 3:10 to 3:15 range.
Remember, it's always fun to take a trip down memory lane with the kids and later grand kids - see this is when daddy or grandpa was a wee lad, with hair and could run like the wind.
Maybe the toughest part is coaching yourself. It's a lot easier in general to be objective with others. Hopefully there is another set of eyes keeping you honest. Good Luck!!!

No, the only limit is to beat the bridge. A friend who is going to be doing MCM is reminding herself of that feature a lot. On her latest 20 mile training run, she beat the bridge limit. So she's feeling much better about the marathon.

She must be awfully glad they changed the course so the bridge comes "sooner" (mile-wise) than it used to.
After I finish the 8k, I'll be cheering home the marathoners for a while. Good luck all. bj
