None of the marathons in Colorado are as well represented as those in other
cities/parts of the country. It's hard to run at altitude if you've been
training at sea level, so we tend get a higher concentration of local
runners and fewer traveling runners. I guess that's the only good thing
about the failure of the DM......we don't get as many people spending cash
and time to be here for the race. I feel for those who did.

Personally I admire people who train at 14.7 and then come up here to
race.....you people are goofy! :^)

Some years there have been two Denver marathons in October. The other was
called the Colorado Marathon and run in the suburbs. No wonder its difficult
to get organized.
Not too far away is the Boulder backroads marathon in the autumn.

There's also the Ft Collins marathon one week after Boulder
Backroads. It's a reasonable drive from the northern suburbs.

The problem is the climate - it snows (often heavy) into April or
even May. Give a reasonable amount of time to prepare for a
marathon and you're into late September/early October. But even
that is iffy since early fall storms can still dump a foot of snow
on you. (Boulder Backroads was run in a snowstorm a few years ago.)

The mountain marathons are run in the middle of summer but their
window is only a few months long.
