felt I was running well but my final time turned out to be 31:42, which
was disappointing. I don't know what's the matter with me this week.
I've quite recently started fairly strenuous resistance training on
machines at the gym. Maybe that's the reason for my poor running all
week. If so, should I stop it, or keep on until my body adapts, or keep
on but make it less strenuous? Or maybe it's not that, it's something
else entirely. Anyway, thanks for asking.
Regardless of your time, Congratulations! You've finished two races
more than I, so I'm mighty impressed.
Last summer I was doing about 30-40 minutes of fairly strenuous weight
training, 3 days a week and treadmilling a comparable time, 3 days. I
didn't do much of any lower body weight work but the whole schedule just
made me feel wiped out. In the last couple weeks I've started low-key
calisthenics-type exercises in addition to my running. Just situps,
pushups and some light arm/shoulder work with dumbells. Nothing that
takes much time - probably not more than 10-15 minutes a day.
Maybe if this week ends up with you still feeling poorly then you might
consider cutting back on either the strength training or the running.
Could be you're just in a funk that will pass on its own.
Speaking of funks. Historically this time of year has always been
somewhat depressing for me. The last days of summer are gone and the
beginning of the autumn to spring rain has begun. Things won't dry out
around here until late April to May. Late spring and summer are *my*
seasons. This year, I'm sorta, kinda looking forward to the cooler
weather and maybe even the rain. Last week it was in the mid to upper
70Fs - running was hot and sweaty. This week has been in the 50s-low 60s
with rain - much nicer on my outings. Maybe this autumn to spring
weather ain't so bad afterall...
