  1. Beginners can post their training logs here, or in the "training week"
thread, or anywhere else they like, it's an unmoderated group. No run
too short. No pace too slow.

    Here's mine:

I've been running mostly [censored] this week, which has been worrying because
I've got a 5k race this Sunday. Last Sunday I had a great 5 mile run in
the mid morning, but every other day it felt like I was wading through
custard with a Shetland pony tied to my back. Every day apart from
Sunday I ran at about 6am. So on Thursday I decided to run during the
day rather than pre-dawn, and lo and behold, I had a smashing run.

I'm not running today, and I'll only have a short easy jog tomorrow. I
feel confident for the race on Sunday. Wish me luck - I'm hoping to beat
my 29:31 pb (set in my one-and-only other race last month).

Good luck, Mel! You'll do great! : )

I had a really good week, running and all around working out wise. Since I
just got back into running last month, I'm taking it slow. Below is my
workout schedule of the past week:

    Monday 10/11: weight workout
    Tuesday 10/12: ran two miles
    Wednesday 10/13: weights
    Thursday 10/14: ran two miles
    Friday 10/15: off
Saturday 10/16: ran two miles, weights, swam 26 laps

Tomorrow I'm hiking to the top of Mt Tam and then down to Stinson Beach.

    Well? Well?
    _____

This week was practically a mirror image of last week:

    S - 3 mi
    M - off
    T - 3 mi
    W - 3 mi
    Th - 4.5 mi
    F - off
    Sat - 3 mi.
    total - 16.5 mi @ 10:50/mi

    I'm considering bumping a second day's mileage - maybe do two 4.5
runs... I gotta map out a second route for that mileage to stave off any
    boredom.

    Well? Well?

It was a good race - nice location, nice people, good organisation. I
felt I was running well but my final time turned out to be 31:42, which
was disappointing. I don't know what's the matter with me this week.
I've quite recently started fairly strenuous resistance training on
machines at the gym. Maybe that's the reason for my poor running all
week. If so, should I stop it, or keep on until my body adapts, or keep
on but make it less strenuous? Or maybe it's not that, it's something
else entirely. Anyway, thanks for asking.

Regardless of your time, Congratulations! You've finished two races
more than I, so I'm mighty impressed.

Last summer I was doing about 30-40 minutes of fairly strenuous weight
training, 3 days a week and treadmilling a comparable time, 3 days. I
didn't do much of any lower body weight work but the whole schedule just
made me feel wiped out. In the last couple weeks I've started low-key
calisthenics-type exercises in addition to my running. Just situps,
pushups and some light arm/shoulder work with dumbells. Nothing that
takes much time - probably not more than 10-15 minutes a day.

Maybe if this week ends up with you still feeling poorly then you might
consider cutting back on either the strength training or the running.
Could be you're just in a funk that will pass on its own.

Speaking of funks. Historically this time of year has always been
somewhat depressing for me. The last days of summer are gone and the
beginning of the autumn to spring rain has begun. Things won't dry out
around here until late April to May. Late spring and summer are *my*
seasons. This year, I'm sorta, kinda looking forward to the cooler
weather and maybe even the rain. Last week it was in the mid to upper
70Fs - running was hot and sweaty. This week has been in the 50s-low 60s
with rain - much nicer on my outings. Maybe this autumn to spring
    weather ain't so bad afterall...

Thanks. It was a charity race for Cancer Research, so I dutifully took
my form around with me for a few days and picked up £300 in pledges,
which was astonishing. It meant that a lot of people knew I was doing it
this weekend - but now I realise many of them didn't have a clue what
    "it" was.

People are coming up to me saying "Did you run your marathon?". Erm, no,
not quite. Others ask "How did your sponsored walk go?" Walk! WALK!

People who don't do races and charity events, etc. are funny like that.
They call things races when it's just a "fun ride" with no set starting
time. Or they have no idea how hard a professional race is. Like when my
sister-in-law found out that I was watching something similar to the
Tour De France on T.V., and she asked in complete seriousness if I was
going enter it some day. Errrr, NOOO..

So your post made me laugh 🙂 "Walk!" lol...
