People are quite capable of making their own mind up. Those reading this newsgroup have been given a wide variety of views and references to lots of research on the subject and there is still no consensus on the subject so what will a poll reveal?

I prefer the term caver. I took up caving after a major peel off but then went back to the hills because the view was better and it smells less. Know what I mean?
I'm one: FMD rather shut things down and got me out of the habit, might get down to the Dales in MArch but we need to check the proposed date doesn't clash with Roos' brass band contest. We did go for some grubby crawling around mines at Coniston back in the "summer".

I quite like the smell of cave - well, typical Yorkshire stuff anyway, Manor Farm Swallet is a different matter. And the view is different, not necessarily better (especially if it's foggy outside!). I'm mostly lapsed for other reasons...

"Mail me and I will post a summary to the newsgroup" was the traditional way of handling things like this before web forms.
(Or, in the case of things that people really cared about accurate results, like newsgroup creation polls, "mail me and I will post a full list of the results to the newsgroup so people can verify their votes were counted".)

And one which is less simplistic. I note that there is no way of registering "I wear a helmet but I don't think that not doing so is stupid" or the equivalent. It appears to be a question designed solely to prove a point, which is why haven't answered it.

Ah. So you don't understand Usenet threading models either, then.
It should be fine as long as the usenet clients preserve the References line. I can see how in some clients this could actually make sense for something like this because you can see all the subjects.

It might show how representative this ng is of the cycling population as a whole, at least on this matter. I believe the helmet wearing % is known though I've no idea what it is.
Me - a town trundlie cyclist - never wear a helmet, I think they're dangerous owing to [1] risk compensation.
[1] I can never remember when one should use "owing to" and when "due to", no doubt due to or owing to my grammar school education.
