  1. So yesterday I basically had a little of everything that I wanted to
get it out of my system. i stopped with the M&Ms at 1200am.
no coffee/capp this morning on the way to work. a diet vanilla coke
instead. I get here and of course, there is a pan of rice krispy bars,
and a pan of pumpkin bars, but I brought a bag of food like I used to
and that has helped tremendously. I am also using fitday, taking the
stairs (I work at a Children's hospital 12hrs Saturday and Sunday and
they pay me or 12 more hours for working the weekends)
so I have 25lbs to lose to get back to 145. here I go, the ketosticks
are waiting for day 3-4 to test. and my resolve is solid.
I think I really missed the constant reinforcement of watching the
numbers go down, then with Curt being sick, it didn't feel right to be
so concerned with my weight and looks. I believe that I really felt
that if I continued, that it would seem like I was already looking for
a new man.....I don't know if anyone will understand this as a
motivation for slacking off on the diet but it was the first step in a
long fall. then I just ate with Curt. He has a very sweet tooth and
likes to eat a lot of seafood. I didn't eat a lot of sweets, but quite
a few lattes as he has radiation 5 days a week before he starts Chemo.
It was our routine to have me drop him off at the door, park and get us
each a latte (Grande vanilla with whipped cream for him, short vanilla
and pepperming with whipped cream for me). My bread was Carb Control, I
started having a bowl of oatmeal at work because the other options are
microwaved egg circles or omelets with nasty white cheese I think too,
that I had quit exercising so I would have the house clean all the time
and everyone else's needs were met (except mine) so that is over. I
actually starting exercising again back in late Nov. I am scheduling
bi-weekly massages for relaxation and stress-relief.
I don't anticipate major roadblocks now that I have this all figured
    out.

    so I begin again
    220/170/145
    first start 1/16/03
    recommitted 1/1/05
    lowest weight 144 Dec 2003
Committed wife of Curtis- incurable metastatic prostate cancer at age
40 -diagnosed on his 40th birthday, now 41

Good for you. I think it's even more important for both yours and Curt's
sake that you look after yourself properly. Best of luck!

    Nicky.

    long fall.

I understand it. It's not unlike part of the beginning of my last big
climb in weight. I had made the decision to give up on men entirely for
my own piece of mind. Along with some setbacks, I just sort of gave up
and let myself eat whatever I wanted. Part of it was to make myself
less attractive so I wouldn't HAVE to deal with men coming on to me.
That part worked pretty well :-) I did NOT intend to get as big as I
did, but my internal mantra was "It doesn't matter." It DOES matter, of
course. The heavier I got, the worse I felt, physically and mentally.
Being heavy does terrible things to a person's self-esteem and
confidence (and it's REALLY hard on the joints). I'm enjoying looking
better, but the physical and mental improvements are MUCH more important
to me now. For everything you have to go through now and in the future,
you NEED to take care of yourself just to be able to cope better. The
better you feel physically, the stronger you'll be.

Another thing to consider is that you don't know what might happen in
the future that will be aggravated by being heavier. I fell and injured
BOTH my feet in 1998. I think I was about 170 or 180 lbs at the time.
That was the end of my relatively easy mobility and the beginning of an
extremely sedentary life. The weight at the time didn't help and it was
made CONSIDERABLY worse by gaining another 25-35 lbs on top of it. I
ALREADY had back problems (remember there are 3 types of people in the
world: those who have back problems, those who have HAD back problems
and those who WILL have back problems), which were exacerbated by the
extra weight and lack of exercise. Extra weight is bad news, no matter
HOW you look at it. I say it a lot, but I can't stress it enough --
LOOKING good is nice, but FEELING good is PRICELESS.

Its funny how the mind works after loosing my mom 5 1/2 years ago to colon
    cancer then loosing
my dad Feb 5 to CHF (the day after my birthday ) loosing my DH is my biggest
fear... just thinking about it makes me cry my eyes out. so this is my road
block and has been for years. I fear if I loose all the weight I would like
to, Derrick will think I'm not the same person he married almost 7 years
ago and leave me. The funny thing about it is I just want to get back down
to the not so small size I was back then ~190. I know he loves me and wants
me to be healthy and I know he will love me any size I become but this
thought always sits in the back of my head.

Please remember that your DH wants you to be healthy and to live a long and
happy life just as you would want for him. Altho my dad lived for 5 years
after my mom he really died the day she died and I know my mom would never
have wanted that. I'm sorry if you didn't want to have a stranger write to
you about this and from a second hand point of view but if you ever need to
talk about the stress of cancer please E-Mail me [email hidden] . I
was there with my mom and dad everyday giving my mom meds watching as the
chemo seemed to do more bad then good and supporting her when that 50/50
chance of the cancer coming back wasn't on her side and when she decided
that chemo had its chance and it was time to enjoy the life she had left. I
also got to celebrate as she entered the 5th month that the doctors said she
    wouldn't be alive.

once again I'm sorry if this was the wrong thing to write

OMG, no! Sharing is what we are here to do. Hearing of how other people cope
helps me. all of it relates to weight (I think esp. for women)

I am sooo sorry about your loss of parents. I never really knew my dad
because he was a horrible drunk, then he found his native american roots
(1/2 Dakota) about 8 yrs ago and became a very well-respected person. I did
not go to the pow-wow that I was going to go to and he died 4 days later.
My mom is 62 and lost her fiance 6 yrs ago. he went out to his car to have a
smoke during a break and had a heart attack and died. she has not recovered.
Even tho I can't stand that crazy broad most of the time, I know I will be
so lost and be orphaned (she was orphaned by 37 and her brother died 2 yrs
    after her mom)
take care and Be open with Derrick and then laugh about it. Curt and I laugh
every day at least once and usually many more times than that.
    take care

I'm glad you didn't mind and thank you. dealing with it is harder now that
both of them are gone.I guess you can say that in a strange way talking to
my dad was like talking to the both of them. I'm sure its much harder for my
sister to deal with my dad passing being 1. she found him 2. I live 1700
miles away 3. even when she lived with him she didn't spend much time with
him (guilt).. so granted I didn't see him all the time in the last 5 years
but I talked to him a lot on the phone so thats what I miss the most. I was
very close to both my mom and dad and take pride in acting like them... when
    I catch myself :o).

Derrick has been so strong for me I can't believe I picked such a perfect
man when I was 17. lol
he was there for me when both my grandfathers passed he was my everything
when my mom passed he supported me everyday when my depression got bad (I
have Major Depression after my mom passed we moved to Wyoming the next year
I fell apart with the worst episode ever) and he was my backbone when my dad
passed, Derrick didn't know his dad till a few years ago so my dad was also
his dad yet he still kept me standing. like I said I don't know what I would
    do without him.

Again please feel free to e-mail me if you ever want to talk. No one can
ever truly understand what you feel but some people can relate.

  7. Yay, Lori!

It sounds like you're working through things pretty well. I'll be
cheering you on from the sidelines here in Oz! You can do it - and
you can give Curt the gift of knowing that you ARE looking after
    yourself, too.
