The 'Grote Prijs Sven Nijs' (Grand Prix SN) is the strong man's hometown
race and round five in the 'Gazet van Antwerpen Trofee'. Last year he
pushed himself to the limit in outdoing a then dominating Wellens. With
his form this year, things promise to be a little easier, although the
course itself, laid down by Nijs, is hard as always. A lot of mud, a
hill and a fly-over in each round. With a lot of soft grass, the course
conditions will worsen during the race. The espoirs race together with
the pros today, and there is no separate podium for the U23 category.
They do get individual points for the GvA Trophy, where Pauwels (BEL)
leads Gil (POL). It will be interesting to see how they do against the
big guns. On the other hand, tomorrow is another World Cup race in
Switzerland and some may try and keep a little in reserve.
I missed the intro and almost 2 minutes of the first lap, but recorded
the rest.

There was an incident where Ben Berden had a confrontation with lapped
rider Benoit Simard (CAN). Seemed intentional on Berden's part, but no
word on possible consequences. File format WMV9 640x480, 4 MB, 0:00:34

Commentator Michel Wuyts at first doesn't see the elbow of Berden and
thinks he is lucky to escape unharmed from Simard's crash, but gets it
in the rerun. Co-commentator Paul Herijgers concludes: "If you do that
to the wrong guy, then it's 1-1 on the next lap I think..."
