  1. I recently got a Tacx Cycleforce Swing turbo trainer.

I find that when I tighten the resistance roller against the tire to the
point that it doesn't slip on high resistance, my tires squeak like hell.

Yet if I don't tighten it so much then all is quiet. Only problem being
that I cannot increase the resistance of the trainer as the tires start to
    slip.

Is it something I have done or my tires?

Perhaps the next time I post I should use my native language and then we can

Ooooh we are a tad sensitive :-)

I hope Mseries' valid and correctly spelt, for the UK, answer does not
color, correctly spelt for the USA, ur, correctly spelt for txt msg, ability
to accept properly offered opinions :-)

I didn't think MSeries was "correcting" your spelling, but simply
providing a one word answer. It's quite natural that he should do so
with a British spelling. I don't see why you should be offended that he
didn't adopt your perfectly correct, but for him unfamiliar, American
    English spelling.

try adjusting the roller promixity to the tyre - this makes the type
grip more and stops the squeaking in my experience.

FFS, you asked "Is it something I have done or my tires?" I suggested it
was the latter but spelled the word the way I was taught to. This is
uk.rec.cycling, you have to expect us to spell things the way that we
are taught to here in the UK.

    I apologise for my abruptness.
I took your post the wrong way and came across sounding like an [censored].

I had a similar problem and found using a slick tyre worked best for me.

  10. My tyres are slicks.
I found it didn't squeal too bad today - could be because it's new?
But I have been adjusting the tension.

Make sure the tyres are pumped up to the maximum pressure, or even
slightly more, then increase the roller pressure bi by bit. Don't use
new tyres, always some that have been on the road for a bit (gets rid of
the slippy compounds they use in the moulding process, plus its a waste
of a good tyre on a turbo.

What the man said. I use a set of cheap £3 tyres that I got in a clearance.
They are still 23mm tyres but made of much heavier rubber than a set of
race tyres. This is a good thing on a turbo.

    Hi there.

    Sorry, I'd recomend the opposite!

Try reducing the pressure in your tyres, I usually run 110psi on the
road, but knock it back to 85psi or so for the turbo (I use the same
    model as the op).

Reducing the tyre pressure gives a bigger contact patch for a given
roller pressure, so it should grip better. You will have to tighten the
roller adjustment to get the same roller pressure though.

I agree with the bit about using an old tyre. In fact an old tyre on an
old wheel with worn out rims in my case...
    Cheers, Andy
