I just spoke with my boss in New York. Told her that today is a glorious
cycling day and that tomorrow when I plan to ride 90 miles it is
forecast for 30mph winds and (horizontal) rain. :-(

I have to be home, changed and out again by 17:00 tomorrow so if the
conditions are really getting to me I'll cut my ride short and do less.
Can't get out on Sunday either as I'm going to Bracknell.

Humph. I'm absolutely committed to riding from Stranraer to Dumfries (75
miles) on Sunday. Charity ride, and I've got sponsors, so I really
can't chicken out. The good news is that the forecast is cold but
sunny; the bad news is a crosswind of gale force 8 to severe gale force
9, 'that to which a well-conditioned man-of-war could just carry in a
chase, full and by, close-reefed topsails and courses'. Humph.

I'm booked on it too Helen, but am in two minds because (a) the forecast
is pants, and (b) I've been up since 2am on an aborted business trip to
Cornwall (aborted because the Ryanair from Stansted to Newquay ended up
at Bristol as it was a tad murky at Newquay) so am "feeling spread a bit
thin".

I'll peer out at 7am tomorrow, and if it's nasty, I'm gonna take a dive
- back to bed 😉

I've sailed the larger Laser Stratos, very nice too, but today have been
mostly sailing a windsurfer, or at least trying but 50+mph gusts are hard
work!

I got close in a real dinghy.. trying to really ctch a good swell we had
the jib clew well under water..

Good luck. I shall be attempting to tidy / organise / discard the
contents of my flat in preparation for moving. For that true "I hate
headwinds" feeling, locate a long flat road straight into the wind from
which you can see the hill you have to climb! ;-)

Alternatively, try a variant on the mantra from Finding Nemo; "Just keep
peddling. Just keep peddling!"[1].

Not nice but the glaring "wrongness" helps take your mind off the wind.

And the latest breed of light wind windsurfers optimised for 10m sails are
almost as wide as Lasers, it's now just a matter of choosing between sitting
down or standing up!
