I'm not a local but I may be available for a ride then. I'm much slower
than most locals so that my be an advantage for you. (Or not) I'll have to
pack up my bike and ship it home right after though, I'm leaving on the 12th
of March.

Advice, drill you rims for Schrader (21/64" drill bit) and Slime your tubes.
Also get some tires with very stiff sidewalls, think DH casings, if you ride
aggressively on rocks. I'm running Maxxis Mobster 2.35"'s. My poor Seracs
just folded on South Mountain.

That whole section of the southwest has been seeing unusual rain fall
lately. Friends of mine are having a house built in Corona, NM and they
had to delay construction because of all the rain. The trucks just sink
down. But from pictures I saw everything is budding green. So pretty!

How about the fool in his pickup truck in 2 ft of water.
He may have to pay for being saved by a chopper. Back in 90 I was
sitting eating dinner in a resturant when hell broke from above and I
was in water above my shoes. I laughed due to the staff trying use table
linen to stop the water from flowing under the front doors. Thats

I've called four or five shops in tucson and they all recommend slime. Plus
the local association there does too. How come you think it is a waste of

Hehe. One of the VPs where I work just did that in his Hummer.

He will probably be one of the first to be prosecuted under the "stupid
motorist" law. Then again, most Arizonans (transplanted) fit under this
category.

Agreed. No need for slime. If you pinch flat, Slime is the worst mess. Let's
see now...in the past few months of riding every other day, I have had no
flats. Nix the Slime. Just another reason to charge you $5 to fill up your
tube with that [censored]. If you feel the need, most shops here in Penix will
have a 5 gallon bucket with a pump that will inject the stuff via Presta
valve. No need for Schraeder valves.

I heard all about that guy - talk about your "instant celebrity". I
drove out past Apache Junction last weekend, and was stopped by 3-4
feet of water going over the road just past Tortilla Flat (a tourist
trap in the middle of nowhere) at warp speed. Even with a lifted
Jeep, I wasn't at ALL tempted to get on the news by trying to cross
it.

Must be the rainy weather - just had a 46 year old doctor of some sort
go ballistic over being searched at Phoenix airport, so she thought
she'd be cute and say something about a bomb in her suitcase.

She got to talk to some nice FBI agents, and her suitcase was taken
out onto the ramp and blown up. Great footage of the whole thing on
the news tonight. Gotta love the instant karma.

and all the costs for the rescue. I don't think this guy should be singled
out just because he drives a H2. Same should apply to all the go around the
barriers or pass a sign that clearly states "DO NOT ENTER WHEN FLOODED"

$800 is the cost of the rescue according to Sheriff Joe's quote in the AZ
Repugnant. I'm not singling him out because he drives an H2. I would have
said he tried to do it in his Geo Metro if that's what he was driving. If I
remember correctly, that rescue was the 5th or 6th they did that day and it
was in the dark. Our office had a field day with him. I don't think most
people realize what kind of force a fast moving current actually has.

that everyone ran it. I haven't picked up any thorns yet either. Just

so what's the story w goatheads? can you ride at 42-45 pounds on 2.1"
tires without any slime and get away with it?

i can ride 4-6 hours on hard technical single track in virginia right
now. would ordinarily keep tires at 45-52 or sometimes higher. weigh
160. i have no experience with ground heat and goatheads and all that,
so trying to see how to best prevent flats

I've never called any shops in Tucson, nor have I ever contacted the
local association there. I do personally know people who live in the
Sonoran Desert who ride quite often and don't run slime (incuding Mr
Spann). Maybe the sources you contacted don't ride often or well
enough to avoid cacti. Believe it or not, there are some shop
employees who don't have a clue. Google the subject of bike shop
employees in this NG and see for yourself. The "local association"
where I used to reside is full of people who pretend to know what they
are talking about, but don't ride as often as most enthusiastic
mountain bikers do. Their egos bely their knowledge.

Yup, I really live in Florida and just call myself a mountain biker.
I've actually paid off everyone on this NG who I claim to have ridden
with to include me in their ride reports and such. The real "JD" in
any photos is one Charles Lysaght, who is a true demigod of mountain
biking.

I'm one who swears by slime for use here in Phoenix. It's not so much for
the trail riding but getting to the trail that I live by and also accessing
the bike paths. The goat heads are few on the trails but the streets and
bike paths seem to be covered with them.

Like everybody else said, slime does nothing for pinch flatting and it
creates quite a mess.

If you're only riding the trail, you won't get the use out of slime.
