I think that I read why somewhere, but now Ive forgotten, and I cant
find a very good explanation anywhere. What I wish to know is what
difference does it make to a fit active person not wanting to lose
weight, not overweight if he eats fat rather than carbohydrate?

refined carbs are oxidants and cause inflammation, both actions being
extremely harmful to us on a cellular level.Refined carbs are the basic cause of most of todays rampant diseases
like obesity, diabetes, heart disease, coeliac disease, osteporosis,
adhd, anxiety, depression, dental caries, nutritional deficiencies,
auto immune disorders, etc. etc.On a high carb diet with an active lifestyle you may not be obese, but
the refined carbs are doing their damage, slowly but surely. You may
appear fit but your system is being assaulted constantly on a cellular
level.During the Korean war, medical people doing autopsies on dead American
soldiers found all kinds of signs of cardio vascular disease among
apparently healthy and physically active young American soldiers. They
looked healthy but they were already starting to go downhill
internally. That gives you a good idea what happens to apparently
healthy active people who eat a diet high in refined carbs. And note,
that the amount of refined carbs, ie. sugars, has increased
significantly in the last two decades. The only way to good health is to eat real foods, fresh foods, natural
foods, foods full of nutrition. And stay away from manufactured,
nutritionally-bereft [censored] and especially refined carbs. If you eat a
lot of refined [censored], it doesn't matter how active or thin you are, the
refined [censored] will eventually do you serious physical harm. You have to maximize the amount of real nutrition you get in every bite
of food. Good healthy fats and proteins from good healthy animals are
good healthy foods. Good fresh produce right from the farmers field or
from the fruit tree is chock full of good healthy nutrients. fresh
seafood is healthy. And all of these are naturally and relatively low
carb.Pasta, cakes, soda, refined-flour white-bread, potato chips, candy,
donuts, RTE cereals, refined grains, pre-packaged meals, instant
packaged foods, powdered soups, powdered sweet drinks, pudding, fruit
rollups, fruit juice beverages... all of these are not real foods and
they contain very little if any nutrition and they contain loads of
added sugars and other chemicals. And all of the these refined foods
tend to be higher in carbs, especially refined carbs.Low carb is the by far the healthiest alternative. Anyone who says
otherwise either has an agenda or simply does not understand what low
carb really means, or chooses not to understand.Low carb is about eating real foods and getting real nutrition and

will your workouts will suffer like mine did when I experimented on
low carb just to see what all the fuss was about. Basically I just
got depressed and felt miserable.Just eat healthy foods many of which contain carbs. Some come from
animal sources some don't. Stay away from the fundamentalist nut jobs
that either preach low-carb diets, vegan diets, all animal source
diets etc. -
Thanks for your answer TC. I guess that I misunderstood the low carb
thing. From what you wrote, I gather that low carb is about not eating
junk food rather than following a diet that is low in carbohydrate. But do you mean that eating carbohydrate produces free radicals and
causes inflammation? Is this a fact? Do the textbooks on nutrition
cover this?Robin

does not mean you can eat anything and get away with it. An active
person needs some fat and lots of good carbs and of course proteins. The
percent of each gets debated ad nausium especailly with all the fad
diets. Once the fad geeks start with the low this or the high that, the
hairs on your neck should stand up. Eat balanced and avoid the cheap
sugar [censored] or if you have self control, splurge only on special
occasions.

person needs some fat and lots of good carbs and of course proteins. The
percent of each gets debated ad nausium especailly with all the fad diets.
Once the fad geeks start with the low this or the high that, the hairs on
your neck should stand up. Eat balanced and avoid the cheap sugar [censored] or
if you have self control, splurge only on special occasions.well put.

Thanks for your answer TC. I guess that I misunderstood the low carb
thing. From what you wrote, I gather that low carb is about not eating
junk food rather than following a diet that is low in carbohydrate.which (not eating junk food) is what about every nutritionist on the planet
will very probably agree on- low carb or not.Quoted message said:
But do you mean that eating carbohydrate produces free radicals and
causes inflammation? Is this a fact? Do the textbooks on nutrition
cover this?i don't know any one textbook on nutrition or biochemistry that does say
dietary carbohydrates produce free radicals. -

But not true. There is no demonstrated need in the human diet for
carbs. We can convert other macronutrients to use as fuels for our
biochemical processes. We like carbs, obviously, but they aren't

I guess it was too hard for you to remember commenting on it.
Probably too hard for you to understand anyway.

What does necessary have to do with it. A healthy diet is not
necessary either if mere survival is all that is required. For many
all that is necessary is McDonalds, frozen entrees, and Frosted
Flakes. Please go to alt.support.diet.low-carb with the other no carb idiots
and stay out of the science newsgroups. -
