I agree that it is a poor law. The Federal District Court decision was lovely. However, this entire show has been made possible by the "Christian" Right and their anti-abortion minons who have funded the parents case. Polls have consistenly shown that about 80% of the US public beleives that Congress and the President have no business involving themselves in this family matter.

At some point it all has to end. The woman's treating neurologist has stated that MRIs show that her brain has shrunk, that her cerebral cortex is now in a liquid state and that her brain waves are completely flat. This is not simply about one or two more judicial reviews. The case was litigated long and well in the Florida State Court system. That said, her parents have now had three, not one or two, more judicial reviews (Federal DC; 11th Circuit Ct. of Appeals; Supreme Court) all of which concluded that they have no substantial likelihoodof prevailing on the merits. This has more to do with the parents' and siblings nerosis/delusions than anything else.

In general, I'd prefer 130 million adults making rational decisions. And they don't all have to be the same decision. As a country, we don't seem to be much into making rational decisions, but that's because we believe we aren't responsible for making our own decisions. The government is supposed to remove all the bumps and sharp corners for us. Make everything safe so we can avoid risks and decisions. So if we run into a sharp corner, it's someone else's fault. We'll sue!
