Well, here I am, back again. I started training in early Nov after a 3
year layoff, and dropped my calories in mid-January after the exercise
alone had failed to make any significant change in my physique.
So, since Jan, I've been doing 3 days of weights a week, 4-5 days of
cardio (HIIT, 30 minutes) and eating from 1500 to 1800 calories a day
instead of my previous 2000-2200.
What's changed? Little.
I lost 6 pounds from my starting weight (in Jan) of 160. I lost those
pounds in the first month. Since, then, NOTHING.
I still can't be seen in a pair of shorts. My lower half looks exactly
the same. I'm wearing the same pants size....and there's not even a
slight loosening. My boyfriend says he can't see an iota of
difference.
I'm STARVING all the time on as much as 1800 calories. It's really
starting to get annoying.
My upper body looks a lot different.....shoulders broader, a better V
taper, muscles showing. People at the gym have commented on it. I've
got an impressive set of callouses. I'm receiving a lot more positive
attention from males in the gym.
I'm a lot stronger on all my lifts. For example, top lifts went from
20 lb dumbbells in the bicep curl to 30 lb .. . my squat has increased
from 85 lb to 145 lb.....my pulldowns have gone from 80 lb to 120 lb.
But so freakin' what? My only reason for lifting heavy like this is to
increase my metabolism so I can lose body fat. And that doesn't seem
to be happening.
I'm very frustrated....I feel like I'm doing everything right....how
could I possibly go from being a couch potato eating all those
calories, to all this activity and calorie reduction, and still stay
the same size?
I'm not really asking for advice. I said I would report on what's
happening, and that's what's happening. I'm still going to the gym and
continuing with the plan. I don't intend to stop. It does seem to
have some benefits. But not the benefits that I really want.
