TR: Dunkery Beacon plus Selworthy Beacon

I ended up walking round a low-level 250m+ Horseshoe for ~3km. The view
from Selworthy Beacon was excellent, all South Wales clearly visible to
the north.

Back to the car by the correct route, down to the Memorial Hut and
followed the stream down to Selworthy Combe. Not technical walks in
any stretch of the imagination but very relaxing in verdant
surroundings.

The weekend of April 15/16/17 I am in Minehaed, taking my little boy to
Butlins - believe it or not he rates this as good as Disney World! Anyway,
on the Saturday I was looking to have a walk and wondered what was the best
8-10 miler in the area. I wondered about doing a linear from Porlock to
Minehead, or just a something circular in the Minehead area. How far is
Dunkery beacon from Minehead as this looks a worthwhile trip by the sounds -
I prefer to walk on hills with views. I haven't got a map for the area and
was planning on getting one when I get there or perhaps buying a local walks
book? If anyone lives in the area and can advise I would be grateful.

I guess that it's about 7miles (maximum) from Minehead to Dunkery
Beacon, if you've got all day I reckon parking near Webbers Post
[SS902439] would be good.

The walk from Minehead to Porlock will take you over Selworthy Beacon on
the SW Coastpath or you could turn around at Hurlstone Point and make a
slightly different circular route back to Minehead. There's a ridge
above Dunster which I really like because it's quite narrow for the area
and has a nice airy feel to it with good views which you might be able
to link with Selworthy Beacon, haven't got a map here to look at.

If you climb Dunkery Beacon from Porlock there's some pleasant wooded
valleys you can go through en route.

County Gate to Lynmouth on the Coastpath and back to County Gate up the
river valley through Watersmeet is a good walk of contrasting halves.

My favourite route in the area is through the steep coastal woods from
Porlock Wier to County Gate. If you come back along the Coastpath
through the fields above the woods you should get good coastal views but
I don't like fields so have always returned by pretty much the same
route.

I am hoping to get a few small walks in - I will drive someway to Dunkery
Beacon one of the evenings with the wife and kids but I have also decide to
follow the walk from Porlock back to Minhead - it's 9 miles and looks quite
good. It's the last part (or the 1st part whichever way you do it) of the
South West Penininsular Walk I believe? It takes in Selworthy Beacon which
is recommended by the sounds.

Fingers crossed for some nice weather with good views across the channel
then !!
