    Many of you may remember the shock we all felt when we heard that uk.rec.cycling regular Russell
    Pinder was seriously injured in a MTB accident in the Brecon Beacons.

    I'm sure most of you know that Russell is now permanently paralysed, but is coping well. An update
    can be found here:-

    Russ's life was saved by the Air Ambulance that day. Their funded entirely by charity

    A bunch of us formed an appeal to focus our fund raising efforts on the Air Ambulance, details of
    which can be found here:-

    In conjunction with Trailbreak we have our first fundraising event scheduled for the 17th of August.
    It's going to be a right laugh ! As we all pay to do laps of an off road course.

    Russ's wife Heather has never ridden off road before and she's signed up to ride. I''m considering
    doing it on my road bike.

    Can I ask all of you on uk.rec.cycling to take the time to register for the event and buy one lap.
    You can do this at the RUSS Appeal website, it takes about 30 seconds.

    At the time of Russ's accident. Many of you asked if there was anything you could do ... well there
    is. Buy a lap, come along and ride it !

    Oh, and Russ will be there as well. you will not believe how well he and his family have coped ...
    they're inspirational.

    And if you want to 'hire' a mtb there will be local bike shops on hand to hire out their test bikes
    with all the proceeds also going to air ambulance

    Russ finally back on line - but only at weekends

    and thankyou one and all for all your messages of support over the last 3 or so months.

    me means a canal towpath and I avoid them whenever possible.

    So I shall probably turn up on a fixer with no helmet. Hopefully that will give me two excuses not
    to risk life and limb and I can just chicken out and just sponsor somebody else to ride a lap. :-)

    Tim We rode the course last night and have worked out a "novices" route which is devoid of technical
    difficulty ! Please bring the helmet though or I'll make you wear my daughters Barbie one Dave

    I don't have a helmet. I threw my old one away when it went mouldy (literally!) although I hadn't
    worn it for ages.
