  1. Okay, today I am trying to keep both fat and carbs down. I can't seem to be
filled up and I feel physically weak! I try to keep my carbs between 20-25
a day and fat, well just as low as possible. Up to this point (day 11) I
have lost only 5 lbs. Any suggestions?

    Kathy

Yeah, eat some fat unless there's some important medical reason you can't.

You're still on induction, right? Then just control the carbs and let the
process do it's thing. Later, if need be, you can limit calories....

Only? How much were you expecting to lose per day?

    Quoted message said:

What percentage of your diet is fat?
How many calories are you eating per day?
How much do you weigh (or how overweight are you)?

Provide that information, and I'll be able to make suggestions.

  6. Did you decide to do this on your own, or were you listening to someone that
doesn't have your best interest at heart?

  7. Low carb/low fat is DANGEROUS! Actually, low fat /ANYTHING is
dangerous. You should never eat low fat. High fat /low carb is the
healthy way to eat. Up your fat intake to at least 50% and eat lots of
healthy animal fats and virgin coconut oil. Saturated fats are you and
    your hearts best friend!

I'm confused as to why you're doing that to yourself? One of the beautiful
things about eating low carb is losing weight (rapidly at first for many!)
while eating fat. And fat keeps you satisfied, keeps your energy levels up,
keeps you feeling full - so you don't feel as bad as you're feeling, which
causes many people to give up. It's hard to get past that "fat makes you
fat" mentality, I know...is that why you are limiting yourself so strictly?
You need to eat fat for your body to burn fat...that in itself might be why
    you've "only" lost 5#?

I don't weigh myself - but in my first 6 weeks I have dropped 2 sizes and
had to buy new "unders"...AND I eat all the fat I want! Since I hear this
same thing from so many people new to LC, it makes me wonder why you're
torturing yourself? Heck, if I'd felt like you do, instead of full of
energy with weight dropping off almost daily (I have a considerable amount
to lose), I'd have given up long before day 11! 🙂

    Kathy

    Day 11 and 5 lbs.? ;-)
Sounds like you are doing fine to me.....

How low are you keeping your fat intake?
As long as you are VERY strict with the low/no carbs and do not eat any
starch or sugar (get all your carbs from fresh veggies) a little fat
    does not matter.

Believe it or not, you CAN be physically harmed from not eating enough
fat! Your body needs a certain amount of Essential Fatty Acids as well
as the Essential Amino Acids you get from your protien.

Try having a small handful of your favorite nuts for breakfast.
Macadamia is probably the best choice but keep it to a 1/4 cut (or 1
    oz.) serving.

There is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate. ;-)

    Hope this helps?

Oh, and be sure to drink enough WATER and take your vitamin supplements!
There is more than one reason to feel weak and dizzy, and low carbing
tends to dehydrate a lot of people! Dehydration will make you feel like

Actually, low fat /ANYTHING is dangerous.

This, of course, is wrong (perhaps dangerously so). You *need* only
about 6g of EFAs per day. You *need* a minimum amount of protein per
day. You *need* vitamins and minerals. The rest of your diet can be
made up of pretty much any combination of protein, fat, or carbs, as
long as it doesn't lead to overeating.

There's no intrinsic reason why a low fat diet (say, 25% calories from
fat) would be dangerous, assuming you're not stupid about the rest of
    your diet.

The point of LC is that high carb can be intrinsically dangerous, if
it causes insulin problems, which may lead to diabetes or obesity.
Reducing carbs necessarily increases protein and/or fat intake, but
that's more of a side effect than a main purpose.

  11. Uh, no.

  12. Uh, no.
Saturated fats protect the heart, the cells and the brain. Unsaturated
fats go rancid and form free radicals in the body. Unsaturated fats
are not a natural part of human diet, saturated fats are. Animal fats
are the best fats to improve health. The only healthy NON animal fats
are coconut, palm and small amounts of olive oil.
Without saturated fats and cholesterol, you're brain can't function
correctly and your heart will suffer.
50% fat intake is the MINIMUM you should have, anything less is not
healthy. Healthy cultures that have no diabetes, cardiac problems, or
obesity and very little cancer eat FAR more than 50% fat, mostly from
    animal sources.

    Not "necessarily".

  17. low carb + low fat = failure

Try reading an LC diet book, like DANDR.
