I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE BICYCLE TRIPS BUT THE COMPANIES THAT ORGANIZE THEM DO NOT PROVIDE RECUMBENTS
AND I WILL NOT USE A WEDGIE. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A RECUMBENT TRAVEL BIKE (BIKE IN A SUITCASE).
THERE ARE A FEW INCLUDING THE SATURDAY AND THE P-38 VOYAGER. I RIDE A BACCHETTA AT HOME AND DON'T
WANT TO COMPROMISE MUCH WHILE SPENDING $$$ ON A VACATION. ANY SUGGESTIONS OR EXPERIENCES WOULD BE
HELPFUL AS I INTEND TO MAKE A PURCHASE SOON. I WILL ALSO NEED ONE FOR MY WIFE. SHE RIDES A
TI-RUSH. WHILE I DO NOT EXPECT TO GET A LWB INTO A SUITCASE I AM LOOKING FOR A SWB THAT IS NOT TO
DEMANDING FOR HER.

art, just above the 'shift' key id the 'caps lock' key. please press it once before committing any
more breeches of internet etiquite. you have posted on this ng and the bacchetta yahoo group and to
me personally. all in upper case. computer text that is in all upper case is difficult to read. this
is not a teletype printer with only one character set. please compare my lower case response to your
upper case one above and you can easily see which is easier to read. The reason that you have not gotten much response is that your communications are difficult to read
and not easy on the eyes.i will try to answer you question. the p-38 voyager is probably the best packable bent for air
travel. I got mine after i successfully flew with my lwb rans stratus to vienna three years ago.
even though you can fly with a lwb, it is difficult to transport to and from the airport. I say the
p-38 voyager is probably the best packable bent. it is the best i have found. if i could find a
better one i would get it.--

Most any SWB with a removable boom will fit in a UPS-able or airline-able box. I bought the
crate-works plastic bent-specific box which is all of the above.True it is $50 either UPS cross-country or on the plane but when you start to add up the costs of
buying a new bike and special suitcases, you'd have to travel quite a bit with a bike to justify
the expense.Regards Chris

I have heard that Angletech is putting S&S couplers in Rans Rockets. Nothing on the web site, last I
checked, so I'd suggest contacting them.angletechcycles.comangletechcycles.comOpen ↗

be the best sol.how does the p-38 folds on plane trips? is there a suitcase-trailer-solution as with sat?
other option could be the german atl folder or my all-loved flevo (can be seperated in the middle),
but it all lacks the suitcase for flights...cheers, leooo

The case is not a trailer. I would not want to try to tow it. I leave mine in a hotel in the city I
fly in to. The hotel will generally keep your bags if you book the first and last night.--

i'll still think the saturday might be the better option, but i do not know anybody using it.

Every option has it's drawbacks. The Voyager is a full-sized P-38 and can support self-contained
touring. (which I like to do). The Sat-R- Day on the other hand is a travel bike and IMO is not
robust enough to stand up to the rigours of daily loaded touring.--

Bentrider Online ( bentrideronine.combentrideronine.comOpen ↗ ) has recently posted a review of a Bike Saturday.
Bryan Ball is currently using the bike as a daily commuter. I do not know how the Saturday will hold
up to touring but I believe that is one of the primary goals of the design. I don't think that the
BikeFriday trailer is well suited to days of being towed, but rather is intended to get the bike
case (and luggage) to your first destination from the airport. You might try contacting both
BikeFriday and Lightning to get more information. The way I see it the Voyager is a fullsized bike
that can be broken down (much like an upright bike with couplers), while the BikeSatRDay is a high
end folding bike. The BikeFriday should be easier to travel with but the Voyager will probably
outperform it on the road. Which one better fits your needs is for you to decide. CraigCletus D. Lee <> wrote in message

How 'bout weeks? My riding partner did 1200 miles/three weeks out of the BF trailer and it is no
worse for this wear. We're off to SAGBRAW shortly after having done BRAG and CSC - using the
trailer. On BRAG and CSC I saw more than one such trailer. Last year we did Cycle North Carolina in
T. S. Kyle - using the trailer. I had dinner last night with an Australian touring the US on a BF
and towing the Carlton trailer.Seems some disagree with you

[B]I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE BICYCLE TRIPS BUT THE COMPANIES THAT ORGANIZE THEM DO NOT PROVIDE RECUMBENTS
What about Happy Riders Cycle Tours. An American company offering holidays in France with BikeE, Rans Tailwind and a Rans Screamer....

In the UK there's the Company of Cyclists and, although you bring your own bike, they always have recumbents to play with....

It appears that Angletech's foldable Rans Rocket is now available. It's a $600 or 700 upgrade, I believe
I've been struggling with the same issue and am now working with a custom bike fitter in L.A. to cut my Lightning Phantom in two! The actual cut, coupling, paint and suitcase will probably cost about 600 in the end, but we're also upgrading the components, etc.
I couldn't quite bring myself to choke up the 1200 for the voyager, since I know it probably doesn't cost Lightning anything near that to have the frame cut and put in a suitcase. The $4K Angletech Altitude looked great, but also just SO expensive and a little overdone for my needs. I didn't feel comfortable with the tiny-wheeled Saturday for old hilly Italian roads. And then, finally, I didn't much like the idea of taking putting so much money into a Rocket (a decent bike for tours, but not a stunner), though this was my tentative choice until I spoke with my custom fitter guy.
So, my suggestion? The Rocket with couplers, from Angletech, or find a frame builder or fitter that would be willing to cut your bike in two for you.

For homebuilders, I helped a guy do a take apart SWB. We actually went to Spain in this bike

There are bikes built for traveling and there are bikes built for touring. The Voyager is the only
recumbent that I have found that does both acceptably.

I guess I am wrong. I thought I had read a review that said the BikeFriday trailer was not suitable
to touring but obviously either I or the review were wrong. Thanks for clearing that up. Craig"Doug Huffman" <> wrote in message
