The facts here are simple. There is no form of "alternative medicine" that can expand a constricted artery, just as there is no "alternative" cure for cancer or AIDS or for most of the other diseases which quacks claim to be able to treat. While ever the practitioners of alternative medicine refuse to accept that there are limitations to the usefulness and effectiveness of their potions, palliatives and placebos, tragedies like the death of Mitchell Little will continue to happen. They keep using terms like "complementary" to suggest that they really want to work alongside real doctors, but whenever a problem with alternative medicine arises solidarity trumps complementarity. Surely, the alternative medicine industry could not be such an obvious house of cards that the exposure and elimination of criminals, charlatans and incompetents would cause it to collapse. Or could it? That's what the inhabitants seem to think.

Unfortunately in this case, this idiot preyed upon the parents of a newborn, and I don't know of many new parents who wouldn't look for nonsurgical options, although in cases where surgery is the only option it's a no-brainer in most cases. Of course, I'm completely unburdened by the specifics of this case, other than what I've just read here, but I think manslaughter was probably too light, but murder implies intent...
Anyone who wants to use alternative therapies should really educate themselves about just what alt med can and can't do. There's no way I would attempt to treat a serious medical condition with herbs, but for my sinusitis and other minor problems they work just fine...for me. Education is the key.

It just so happens that educating oneself about herbs would invariable lead us to see that in fact herbs are able to bring about healing from thngs that medicines can't bring under control. Interesting comparison, since emphysema is a mechanical problem with similarities to arterial stenosis, just on a smaller scale. If ginseng can cure emphysema, similar treatment should be effective for arterial stenosis.
