It depends on how much you have to work with in the shoulder/neckline
area, but I've taken in quite a few necklines in the last couple of
years (including the infamous shrinking top I use in my progress photos
:-) Not only do they become too wide so that your bra straps start to
show, but they also tend to gap out unbecomingly in the front and back.
I've found that if I make a dart/wedge in the shoulder seam it works
pretty well most of the time. Start out at the seamline on the armhole
side, then sew in a gradual, smooth slant to the point where you want
the NEW neckline to be (or start out on the neckline side where you want
it to be and sew in a gradual incline until it smoothly reaches the
armhole seam. You might want to use the largest stitch setting for the
first go-around, because it's easier to rip out if it's not in the right
spot for you. Try it on and see if it works to your satisfaction. When
you have it in the place you want it, set the stitches to a smaller
setting (10-12 stitches per inch) and restitch. Trim off the excess
seam allowance except for about 1/4". Zigzag the remaining seam
allowance if it's inclined to unravel. You may want to trim the edges
of the seam at a slight angle if they poke out at the neckline or
armhole (if sleeveless) and possibly tack it down or under when you are
done so that it lies flat and relatively unseen.

Caveat: be sure to leave enough room in the neckline for it to still
fit over your head when you are done :-)

I've also altered a lot of my clothing as I've lost weight. I've never had
to do the neckline, but I never had shirts with large neck holes. I did
want to add that you could probably pin the shirt to see if it would work
and to get it right before you sew it. Turn the shirt inside-out and put it
on like that. Then pull up on the shoulder seam and pin it the amount that
fits correctly. Carefully take the shirt off and sew along your pin line.

That inside-out try on is how I make my bust-line darts to take in the waist
on my shirts so that they are more fitted. While you've got the shirt on
inside-out, try pinching around other seems and see if taking in any of the
others might make the shirt fit better.

No hints on sewing here. Can you afford *anything* for new clothes?
I've gone down 5-6 whole sizes in the past few years and found very
inexpensive clothing at Rugged Wearhouse and clearance racks at
department stores (now's the time for clearance sales). I bought new
Land's End jeans and polos for $3.00, Outer Banks polos for $3.99, Lee
capris for $5.99, etc. Stores are carrying more of the plus sizes and
fewer misses so you should be able to find plenty if you have time to go
digging. Also, button front shirts are very forgiving when weight comes
off; you can shrink a few whole sizes before they look silly.

  8. Necklines are very hard to alter, with tank tops you can sometimes shorten
the straps. I have a neckline problem with clothes as my shoulders are
narrow for the rest of me. What size do you need?

You can do some small pleats, or make a loop at the throat and add a tie
    made out of bias tape?

The addition of Elastic works too.

  14. IMHO why the hell bother. Buy new ones( new doesnt mean brand spanking
new either, new to you!) Part of the fun is leaving the unbecoming
clothes behind and wearing some fashion No???? Right now I am wearing
the pretty brightly colored Mens Fruit of the Loom 110% cottom Tshirt
from Wally World for like 5 bucks. I have a orange, lime green, purple,
red, and fuschia one. They are clean, unwrinkled, absorbant for the warm
weather, bright cheery and most of all cheap!!! Im wearing 2X's and
will buy them all over again in the same colors when these drop off of
me. I buy tons of clothes, new and hardly worn on ebay. I get the Just
My Size forgiving lycra and denim leggings new with tags for like $5 to
    $8 dollars a pair.

That sounds like fun and as much as I would love to do that i can not afford
say 30-40$ worth of new cloths right now 🙁 Trust me I would rather have

  16. Have you checked out www.freecycle.org ?

Everything is free (and local - you just drive to pick it up). People are
often giving away clothes that no longer fit them or have been stored in a
closet or attic for a while. Sign up for freecycle yahoo newsgroup in your
city and post a request asking for 1x clothing. You may be surprised at how
    helpful people can be.

I was trying to figure that out earlier.. I was wearing a 1X shirt that fit
fine.. but I recall that it was large on me when I bought it in 97 and it
was JUST fitting now.. I would guess 2x.. maybe I should try on some cloths
when we go shopping tomorrow.. lol who said you have to buy everything you
try on.. lol As an example though my MIL got me 3 shirts for my birthday
and they just barely fit and now they are comfy baggy.. The problem is MOST
of my shirts are getting closer and closer to my knees 😉

See, all this stuff is all well and good, but when I saw that (slightly
misspelled) header, I got real interested. I mean clothes falling off is
a subject I never actually studied formally, but it's been kinda a hobby
of mine over the years. (They have free pictures online of people whose
    clothes have actually fallen off.)

Now I find it's not about clothes actually, like, falling off.

For a moment there, I was... curiously... aroused...

Dont worry about clothes. Keep doing Atkins and soon you skin will
start falling off, along with your hair and teeth and other bodily
parts. Then comes the part where your internal organs fail, and death
follows closely. The only new clothes you will need are the ones they
will dress you with in your coffin.

your weight in your coffin !!!
