Definitely bibshorts. For economic reasons, recently I bought a pair of "normal" shorts and I regret it greatly.....because of my beer belly!.

I've bought and own both. If I had the funds, I would buy nothing but bibs.
They are alot more comfortable for your waist and also keep the chamois tight against your [censored].

Bibs...there are no other shorts....

Bibs are great, but you can create near-bibs with your regular shorts with a set of suspenders, the wider the straps the better, and snap-on unless your main squeeze likes to sew on buttons for you.

I prefer bibs , and more specificly .... Castelli Y Pro 3 bibs. Anything Castelli with the "comfortemp" synthetic chamois is the ultimate , IMO. 🙂

Bibs. Regular shorts felt funky after I went to bibs. The only problem I have with bibs is that umm, well they umm, okay well fine the suspender part would chafe my nips in certain conditions. Okay shared too much there.

I see this type of opinion on this board a lot, so I'm sure there are good reasons for it, but they aren't obvious to me. I ride (road) a lot and consider myself pretty serious, but I've only ever used shorts, never tried bibs. But I've been thinking of trying it out lately. What is it that makes them so awesome? I've never felt like I had a problem with my chamois staying snug on my shorts, and I don't really have a gut (5'11'', 152lbs.). On top of that, I worry about the chafing thing with the bib straps. I often notice people wearing t-shirts under their bibs and then a jersey over all that (not sure why - maybe the chafing thing?). That all seems annoying to me too, especially given the heat this summer.

I personally have never had a 'chafing' issue with the bib part of the bibshorts, To me it's purely a comfort thing and the fact that beer gut or not, i have NEVER even slightly felt the need to hitch them up mid flow!

Oh, & actually my girlfriend quite likes them too!! 🙂

Nah, ya been schmokin da carpet again mon....

The huge comfort benefit of bibs is that you don't have an elastic waistband. A good pair of bibs is a good investment. Take care of them and they should last a good long time. Ex pro gear on eBay is a good way to get into top of the line clothing on the cheap.

But, I have two nice regular Giordana shorts that I don't want to just throw away. A $10 investment in a pair of suspenders made sense. I never feel the elastic waistband when I wear suspenders. No prob, mon.

I have both, but I prefer bibshorts.... no worrying about the shorts riding down.
I prefer Nalini and Giordana

Viva Le Bib! Hell I even wear them on off days, the ladies like them too.

Listen to capwater and put the bong down...unless your shorts are falling off, 10 investment in suspenders makes no sense. Bibs fit totally differently than shorts and are not just shorts with suspenders.

You can get matching suspenders to hold up your socks. 😎

I see -- you've tried them. Or, you are just omniscient? Anyway, if $10 is the biggest mistake I make in cycling equipment, I'm miles ahead.

Shorts with suspenders reminds me of a clown with a belt and suspenders who is trying to cover all his options. Now if you have real old shorts or a big size you may be onto something. But, seriously, you can get cheap house brand bibs for $40. I even scored a pair of brand new Nalini's (03 Domina zebra stripe!) off eBay for $15. No excuse to make your own bibs, sounds like something Larry The Cable Guy would do. Git 'r done!
