haven't changed their lifestyle and risk factors to gain any benefit.
It's
probably true that maintaining would have been a better option in that
case.
Articles like this one are more confusing then informative and tend to
leave out important data in order to draw their conclusions. And then there is the malnutrition factor...
How many "dieters" are good about taking supplements?I know that some of the problems (such as hair thinning) are due to the
fact that I tend to be lazy about taking my supplements which, IMHO, are
100% necessary when cutting back on food volume. I look and feel better
when I take my damned pills!Really? I don't take any supplements. I did for a while, but could never
remember which ones w/ meals, which seperate from the others, etc, etc.I have nothing to suggest that I have any dietary deficiencies, and indeed
my folic acid level is quite high for someone who isn't eating all the
processed foods that have it added back in. Of course I eat a wide variety
of foods, esp. lots of vegetables, including mushrooms and green leafy
salads. I also eat mostly organically grown foods and I think they may
have better nutrient composition than veggies grown on overfarmed fields.
I eat mostly meat and don't eat enough veggies.
I try to keep total carbs under 20 grams per day and have done so for
the past 7 months.
I'm bound to end up with deficiencies. ;-)
More frequent fish seems to reverse the hair loss, so it's most likely
an EFA deficiency. It's hard to supplement that even with the use of
olive oil and eating some nuts now and then.

I'm not saying that some people don't need supplements, and certainly you
should take whatever makes you feel healthiest. But, as far as I'm
concerned, a low carb diet that's heavily based on low carb veggies should
supply the nutrients most people need.Martha
Providing you do it right. <lol>
Seems a lot of people don't including myself, and I know better!
