A shy person asked:
Quoted message said:I've just bought myself a new Ultegra rear mech and a pair of braze-on dura-ace shifting levers
(downtube) ....ok call me old fashioned..
You're old fashioned. ;-)
To me it doesn't make any sense to have the shifters anywhere but on the handlebars...bar-end
shifters are only 20 bucks more!
Quoted message said:...I noticed though that they say these shifters should only be used with Dura-ace rear
mechs......Has anyone treid to use these levers with any other mech and if so what problems did
you encounter...if any??
When these were introduced, Dura-Ace was the only 9-speed system in existence, hence the warning.
Subsequently, 9-speed has become ubiquitous, but Shimano hasn't bothered re-doing the printed
materials supplied with these very slow-selling units.
Despite what it says, these levers are compatible with ALL Shimano 9-speed equipment.
