Have we got the nucleus of a u.r.c. mini tour forming here, York-Edinburgh using the LEL route ?
Yes please, how far? (and how far from Cambridge given that I missed that as well?)
Thorne - Dalkieth is 410km, York wll be a bit less but Edinburgh a little more so in all I reckon about 400km. I suggest York and Edinburgh as they have mainline stations and GNER is good with bikes.
I doubt I could fit this in this year now unless we have a very mild autumn.

We could aim for a 2006 late Winter / early Spring ride? That would work for me.
We could aim for a 2006 late Winter / early Spring ride? That would work for
not much time for training.
Although I always said I would never do LEL I liked the idea of just the 800, but starting and finishing from Thorne was not what I had in mind, but York to Edinburgh would be ideal.

Do you mean not much time for training in terms of dark over winter? Otherwise it's 7-8 months away?...

Easter would be good. The main issue will be which route over the hills. Which way did LEL cross the pennines?

bit of both, I have only ever done 400's in the summer, in fact they only run calendered events then; the one I did in May nearly killed me because of a.the cold at night b. being totally inadequately dressed. Even 200's don't usually start until March. Unless you are thinking of not doing it to Randonneur times and sleeping overnight.
Easter would be good. The main issue will be which route over the hills. Which way did LEL cross the pennines?
Up Teesdale, Barnard Castle to Alston over Yad Moss, then on to Brampton. I have tentavily signed up for a weekend in Wales, cycling of course at Easter. Just to get this clear, I was thinking of a tour for this, 80-100 miles per day staying indoors each night.

Good point. Perhaps June time would be better then? Unless we really want to make it the York-Edinburgh Dynamo (for most of the time)...

Lightweight credit card tour with food and leg retorer in pubs sounds ideal.

I'm not seeing some of these messages?... PErhaps they'll sync up at some point?
Yes, 'tour' version is good for me. Time is flexible for me - I guess we'd do it in a long w/e or mid-week 3 days?
Obviously it needs to be worked up to. You've already surprised yourself and impressed urc by what you've achieved this year. There's no reason on earth to go beyond that unless you particularly want to. If you do want to step up a level, however, you might consider whether an SR series was on the cards for next year. Once you've got a successful 600 under your belt the ultra distances become feasible.

That's mad, Ted! </Father_Dougal>

jaw hits floor, and to think ACP want to introduce a 1000k qualifier for PBP!
this, 80-100 miles per day staying indoors each night.
sounds good but I need to concentrate on proper 2-400k rides for PBP (and am using my weekend permit for La Marmotte) so won't be able to do that.
Next PBP is in 2007, you'll do the qualifiers in the same year. I appreciate that some say one should get fit enough in the previous year but surely you could fit somethig like this in the next 18 months.
