  1. I'm seriously craving carbs. I've been waking up at night to eat and
not getting good sleep. So last night I ate some brown rice before bed
and that kept me down, except one wakeup call at around midnight when I
ate a bunch of blue diamond almonds**.

I'm realizing I need to eat carbs during the day. I read on the atkins
site that I should probably have around 60 carbs a day in maintenance
mode, so that's what I'm shooting for. However, I'm at work today and
all I have available is cherries* (eating them right now) and a can of
corn*. How bad is corn in the scheme of things? Would it be better to
have a granola bar* from the snack machine?

I'm 18 days post-op from my BA surgery and feeling damn fine. Fine
enough to go for a jog tonight. Actually NEED to jog or something
otherwise I'll be waking up at 3 am. It's a fine balance of carbs and
    exercise. Damn.

    *not low-carb
**not low-carb the way I eat 'em!

  2. My original post is all past tense now. 1 can of corn @ around 60 grams
of carbs and 1 cup of cherries later... I feel terrific! I'm buying
more corn to keep on hand. It's freaking delicious! Not low-carb, but
in moderation could be fine. I feel full and satiated. I put some
butter, salt and pepper on it, and heated it nice and hot in the mirco
    .... Nice! :-)

    If you're achieving your goals
and feeling good at a higher carb
level, you might want to look at
    the Zone or 40-30-30. A 1600 cal/day
diet that allows 160 grams of carbs
    might suit you.

Thanks for the tip, Bill. I shall look into it. Are there many folks
around here on the Zone? I suppose it's not considered low-carb,
perhaps moderate-carb? Sounds ideal for me, actually. Could I continue
posting here though? I have grown to like it here! People are darn
    cool.

    I'm relatively new here, but I haven't
seen many threads concerning the Zone.
    The alt.support.diet.zone forum is a
low activity forum, so I spend more time
here because there is more to read.

I'd agree with that. Protein adequate,
carb and fat moderate. In the strictest
sense it's not even a diet so much as
    a hormonal modulation protocol.

I think it's a good program for people
who don't suffer from moderate to more
    severe insulin resistance. That's why
I mentioned goal achievement. If you
    can achieve/maintain a healthy bodyfat
percentage on the Zone, good for you.
I don't think that the majority of
the membership of this forum can do that.
And that's why there's not much talk of
    it here.

    I don't see why not.
The Zone is easy to follow.
If it works for you, there won't be
much of a need to hang out on a diet forum.
I think that's much of the reason why
there isn't a lot of Zone conversation.
People hang out on forums that address
    their interests and issues (problems).
If a program as easy-going as the Zone
works for a person, then they really
don't have a dietary problem that
requires a lot of devotion to or support
    from a forum like this.

    It's active--I'll give it that.
As for the people, I'd say that
    they are an interesting
    cross-section.
