I thought I heard the host him say something like "so because there are no holes in the rim, the wheel is stronger ?"

the video of was a MTB doing a slidey stop, then it cut to the above question.

anyone else seen this or know what it is about ?

Don't wheels like HED3's have no spoke holes?

They're not quite the same thing, of course, as a funky sliding
nipple.

hmm.. and I didn't see any spoke holes on my Mavic Ksyriums last night when
changing my tube.. AGAIN... note to self (and others).. the $5/$10/etc note
trick works really well, but not if you wrap it a few mm tighter than the
inside of the tyre when fully inflated... I managed to blow a tube when I
was 15kms away from the bike!

I blame Michelin Pro Race 2's and their sidewalls of paper.. grrr.. what a
waste of good rubber.. grrr^2...

I thought the advantage was with no holes in the rim, you can run tubeless
without having some sort of sealing system. Just like on a moto or car.

My old BMW GS moto had spokes that went through the outside of the rim
(outside were the tyre went), so tubeless tyres were fine.

I'll be tuning in to watch, anyway. ;^)
