    If you revert back to being a HCer, then you'll regain every bit of
    your weight.

    The fact that you have serious problem with exercise and controling your
    weight means that you really need to consider adopting a low carb
    lifestyle for the remainder of your life.

    I stopped doing Atkins because of high BP problems and my doctor saying it
    was not the best diet for me, I liked doing it. That is why I am doing it
    again regardless of my doctor.

    You are incorrect in what you said above-- I did not GAIN any of the weight
    back, I kept it off. And if you read my other messages you would have read
    why I can't do much exercise, I do the most my knees will allow me to so I
    can still walk.

    You could lift weights. You could do Pilates or other floor exercises.
    You could swim.

    Or you could keep making excuses.

    weights add muscle, floor exercises tone... right? I need to burn fat and
    get cardio. I have no access to a pool here, I live in a very small town
    with no facilities.

    you know, you did fine with your suggestions.... that is up until your last

    Weights are good for helping to burn fat....They don't necessarily add
    muscle...they may help you keep muscle as you lose fat...that makes you look
    better as you lose, and you may improve strength. Good things.

    If you're walking 4 miles a day, then you're exercising. Cut the snacks and
    wait for weight loss to happen.

    by the way I've been tinkering at fitday. It seems that in order to get my
    fat up, and protein way down, I basically have to have very little meat, no
    cheese at all, and lots of veggies. sound right?

    celery sticks as a snack, too, you know.

    Then, if you're eating 1224 consistently, and walking 4 miles on a regular
    basis, then hang tight, you'll lose weight.

    However, I want to re-address something....

    You've doing on Atkins for 3 weeks, right?

    Prior to that you were not doing low carb, right?

    And you have not lost a single pound?

    Is that right?

    ;I have 80-100 pounds to lose. I've been back on Atkins 3 weeks with nothing

    ;

    If you're female and menstruating, water gain can mask a non-trivial
    amount of fat loss. I track my weight from lowest point after one cycle to
    lowest point after the next. Since you've already been lowcarbing, you may
    not get the water dump that people typically get when they start
    lowcarbing. The good news is that everything you lose from now on will be
    fat (well, and muscle of course).

    ;B - 1 hard boiled egg, and either 4 sausage links or an Atkins muffin
    ;
    ;L - Lean ham (not lunchmeat) or tuna wrapped in lettuce with 1/2 cup left
    ;over veggie from night before. Or a salad with hard boiled egg and low carb
    ;dressing
    ;
    ;D - lean meat (chicken breast, fish, hamburger patty) with one cup of some
    ;sort of veggie
    ;
    ;Snack - 2 ounce slice cheese or slice of summer sausage
    ;
    ;I don't think I'm eating much at all, not hungry though. Am I eating too
    ;lean for Atkins? The first time I did it I was eating a lot more fat like
    ;bacon and sausage
    ;
    ;

    It looks to me like you're getting more than the 1200 - 1400 calories you
    said in another post. Unless those sausages are tiny, they are calorie
    rich. If you're 80-100lbs over goal, you probably don't have to start
    eating really low calorie, but it's a good thing to have a handle on the
    calories for how much you are eating.

    I'd weigh and measure my food and enter everything into fitday.com (or a
    pocket notebook).

    Hard to say as it depends strongly on what food choices you make. For
    example, macadamia nuts have a lot of fat....you can also eat eggs cooked in
    butter rather than just boiled. You can put oil on your salads...and you
    can eat fatty fish like salmon, rather than lean cuts of meat..but you do
    have to experiment a lot to hone in on the right combination based on foods
    you eat...after a while, it will be like second nature to you...

    right

    ..

  16. Think about how you might get your
    upper body involved. A rowing machine
    might help as would circuit style weight
    training. Also look at every detail of
    what has changed in your life between
    the time when dieting worked and now.
    Things like medications and low-grade
    food allergies can negatively influence
    weight loss. See if you can access your
    local city library online. Hopefully
    you can access a county-wide library
    system. With that you can borrow all
    kinds of low and moderate carb books.
    Start reading them with an eye toward
    strategies and tips that apply to your
    situation. There are many details that
    you need to be made aware of. Ultimately
    I believe that you'll need to develop your
    own plan made up of suggestions that work
    for you. In developing that plan you'll
    need to try everything. Keep what helps
    and discard what doesn't. The bottom line
    is that if you can't lose weight on 1200
    low-carb calories you're atypical and
    you'll need to learn of and try different
    and possibly counter-intuitive things.

    Perhaps the other poster who mentioned the monthly cycle has a
    point....monthly water weight gain has made your water weight loss
    unapparent....because simply going from eating a diet high in carbs to a low
    carb diet should produce a drop in water weight of at least a few
    pounds...unless those Atkins muffins have more carbs then they claim....or
    perhaps you've up'ed your sodium and are retaining water because of that.

    In any case, holding course {with a few tweaks} is called for.

    You know, this seems to go in cycles around here. When I first started
    LC a few years back, most were told to eat more than that. To eat fat
    and calorie count to be higher than this. In this way, she would be
    better off on WW because in that she can eat more with their point
    system. When I was in my best losing mode, I was averaging about 1800
    calories a day, most of it fat, and only exercise was from my
    restaurant. Yes, I slipped and am back on track now, but I am not
    obsessing about calories and eating the 1000-1200 that some do. This
    WOE is a YMMV thing and each person has their own way of doing it. I
    suggest a meat fast or fat fast and see how you do on that, you may be
    missing a trigger food. Cut all diet sodas, my personal addiction and
    staller. Cut all AS if possible, eat meat and water, or do the fat
    fast. Then you can decide if you need to cut or add calories.

  20. I agree. However, I believe that
    it's time to start studying and
    putting together a list of possible
    changes to begin incorporating if
    another 3 weeks goes by with no loss.
    That could mean simply working her
    way through a later version of the
    Atkins paperback as it gets into
    many of the details. It never hurts
    to learn more or review.
