OT - Battery charger

You could try Maplin. They have all kinds of things like that. They have
a website with all their stuff on. Just put Maplin into Google and you
should get there.

It is called an invertor, and there are many available at maplins
http://www.maplin.co.uk and many other places.

Much better to buy a charger which works directly from the "ciggie
lighter", now rebranded as general purpose 12V accessory socket in my car.

Suggest you try the MAHA MH-C401FS http://www.mahaenergy.co.uk/ which works
from 12 V and charges each AA or AAA battery, in 2 hrs or 8 hrs,
individually, then switches each off. The MH-C401FW looks better,
Available widely on the net.

You can get them in various power outputs at Maplins. Sometimes they're
on 'special offer'

In an ideal world the makers of these various chargers and power
supplies would save us all a lot of hassle by making them all run off
12V and supplying a mains power supply to run them off at home but it
isn't an ideal world...

I've got one of the 150W 12V ones from Maplin. At 30 quid it was
cheaper than getting 12V versions of all my other stuff.

Maplins aren't the only place. This is what I bought:

It comes with adapters for both the mains and a car cigarette lighter
(but I've never used the latter). It now seems to come with higher
capacity batteries than I got, though the price has also gone up but
still pretty good.

I recently saw an editorial piece (in either Trail or TGO) about one of
these with a web address of www.ring.ltd.uk. I thought it might be good for
charging my camera, which as a rechargable lithium that I only have a mains
charger for. Unfortunately the site is notable for its lack of information,
and I wasn't interested enough to email them.
