Colin Campbell said:Neil,
I didn't mind Sandy's post. I Googled "Le Cycle" magazine, and learned
that it doesn't seem to have any of its articles on the Web, as well as
that it is rather costly (78 Euros, about $95) for a year's subscription
delivered to the USA. I have never seen it for sale in Southern
California. (If it is, anyone who knows where, please let me know.)
So, it looks as if I won't be getting to read the magazine.
I still don't see anything wrong with Sandy telling us (the people who
look at r.b.tech - anywhere we might be) that it exists, and published
an article of some interest.
Colin
1) Have you read many of Sandy's posts on this forum? There's a
history that provides significant context for my response.
2) There is a distinct 'tone' (again, made crystal clear if you have
followed Sandy's other posts) in the comment
Quoted message said:The most interesting reading, relating to that article
-the list of those, here, who also have read it.
If you can offer me an interpretation of that comment that is either
friendly, helpful, or benign, I'll be grateful. I think it was simply
arrogant and snotty. Again, the context helps loads.
3) Another comment: "No interest in reading ?"
I, too, live in Southern California and have never seen this magazine
in the newsstands. It is, at the least (IMHO) arrogant to be so
condescending to the participants of r.b.t. for not having read
something that is 1) not readily available here, and 2) not printed in
a language that many of us can read.
An offer to post the salient data on a website, to summarize it, or to
send a copy (even if that requires obtaining permission from the
publisher--something the person living in France could possibly do
more readily than we) seems a far more congenial approach than a slam
that we're all ignorant of its contents.
4) Sandy's reply to my post, including the following:
Quoted message said:Gee, I didn't know that US citizenship was a prerequisite to discussing such
matters. Not that English is the only language spoken by US citizens. Nor
that technical folks can't understand the presentation of numerical data.
Nor that offering information could, of itself, be offensive. Didn't even
know that this forum's charter prohibits both non-English posts, as well as
references to non-English materials. But you sure seem to think all of
those are facts.
took my comments into a realm where they should not reasonably have
been taken. My comments were in no way intended to 'declare r.b.t. an
English-only arena.' Rather, I stated a pretty clear set of facts: if
it's French, most of us likely can't read it. Further, most of us
likely don't have access to it.
