  1. You can't make this [censored] up.

Nothing like rusty cow [censored] in your foot.

He describes the incident in his journal entry on the website

    www.thejonathanpage.com

Basically pedalled down on a piece of rebar during the race.

Cant do the world cup sunday as a result.

    Perfect.

    Cyclo-crossers lick their wounds

Bad luck also for Jonathan Page: Racing strongly in Middelkerke on December
29, the American rider achieved a great third placing with a rusty piece of
metal in the sole of his shoe, which caused a wound in his foot. As the pain
worsened in the evening, Page had to go to hospital in Oudenaarde where he
was treated, but he will not be able to prove his good form in the next few
days as he is reported as not being able to even stand on his foot.

  5. Yeow! I hope his tetanus booster is current.

He got a T shot at the docs. There were rusty particles in the hole.
Looks like today was a good course for him again - whickhed splipry so
the euros studs cant just power away. Kinda like Middelkerke. Bummer.

Where was Ryan? Did he wimp out cause of the cold again? Dude always
    cryin' about the cold.

working on a photo of the hole. the piece of rebar got flipped up by
his tire, and then landed just right to get caught by his foot. It went
thru the SIDE of his shoe (not the carbon sole - maybe he should wear
jungle boots) and thru his peterson orhtotic (which is pretty rigid,
and expensive, now busted) and then into the upper portion of his arch.

It was so cold it kept it from swelling.

He was able to ride the trainer with a sandle yesterday, but still
couldnt get his foot into his shoe. He wanted VERY MUCH to race the
world cup with this form, of course. You have to notify them in
advance if you are pulling out, and I guess you need a valid excuse and
all or they actually fine you for not starting. So he didnt dare wait
    till the morning of.

But cyclocross is about racing in whatever conditions there are. Mud, snow,
sand... A little bit o' gangrene is just one bit of the conditions, right?
Anyway, I hope he isn't too badly hurt and can do the next bunch of races. His
form does seem to be pretty good right now.
