Mull trip May - Hey Martin!

My plan is to travel up on the Wednesday - unavoidable meetings at work
on the Tuesday, I am afraid. I had thought of crossing from Lochaline to
Craignure - not Oban. I am sure a lift might be available from someone.

Do Ben More on the Thursday - the Route Master is Phil who wants to set
off from Loch Ba (for sentimental reasons - although he has not
explained what that means) and end at Loch Beg - this means we would
have to have at least two cars on the island. Maybe Phil would like to
give a hint at some waypoints so that we can all set our GPSs.
Finish the day off with a curry in Balamory/Tobermory.

Friday - a boat trip to Iona and Staffa - landing at each island for an
hour or so - and a good gawp at Fingal's cave. Depending on numbers this
could be done by hiring our own boat - maybe - I would need to explore
this. Means I need to know how many bodies would be interested.

Saturday - Corbett/Marilyn Dun da Gaoithe and maybe a neighbouring hill.

Sunday - disperse to the four winds.

Last time I looked the following showed interest - confirmations would

Oban leaving at some unholy time and crossing Oban to Craignure, the aim
to have the tent pitched by 19:00 Wednesday. Ferry crossing looks about
£60 return??? Anyone have any up to date info. Returning Sunday.

Anyone who wants a lift and is willing to share petrol/ferry? But be
warned. When I say I leave at xyz time, I do. No paul Rooney's need
apply.

Otherwise Turus Mara do a tourist trip to Staffa and Treshnish Isles...also
recommended but Inter-Island is a smaller group and tailored to your wishes.

Do we need more than two cars on Mull? I'll be in Scotland for the
week previous bagging the six M****os I need to take me to 141 and can
provide a taxi service from the ferry ports to the campsite.

I'm still on. I could be going down on Sunday and staying all week until
Saturday, when I need to be back that night.

Still not sure whether to chase Munros or Marilyns - I reckon I could just
make all Marilyns on Mull that week ;-)

Saturday, when I need to be back that night.

Still not sure whether to chase Munros or Marilyns - I reckon I could just

You can add me to the list of definite possibles. My current plan is
Saturday/Sunday - drive up and meet friends in Perth
Monday - climb Birnam Wood and Dunsinane (Kings Seat).
Tuesday - Head across and claim one or two Munros en-route, possibly the
Cruachan Horseshoe.
Wednesday - climb an easy Munro and get the ferry across to meet you all.

All this is dependent on my Rover behaving herself!

Any advice on sleeping bags for the trip - I've got three, a light
summer one, a slightly warmer one and a heavy duty. Is it a fair guess
that the weather conditions will be relatively mild? Therefore the
heavy duty will be over the top?

I'd recommend taking the heavy duty one. May is still winter in
Scotland :-)

If you're wild camping, there are good spots at the side of the road on
the South of Loch na Keal - the one that goes round to Gribun. In fact
this is the _only_ place I've found so far on Mull for wild camping (but
I'm going to check out Burgh this year). The best spot on this road is
just past the first bridge over a biggish burn (I've not got the map to
hand). **BUT** if you do camp here, last Easter I found a newly dead
deer a few hundred meters upstream, less than a meter away from the
burn. So, unless the deer has been moved, the burn water may be
contaminated!
